Nice eBay find for the radio restoration project this summer. A VINTAGE Heathkit Capacitor and Resistor Tester WORKS! New cord as the original was badly deteriorated. These are used to"test/verify" a rating for a capacitor or a resistor is of the proper rating. I have another one(EICO 950) that I use frequently and they are very handy to test radio circuit components. The unit is in very good condition and only minor surface imperfections which come from normal use and age. Components tested: a 15K ohm resistor(rang up right on value) A.1 paper capacitor(rang up slightly off value) and a 47mfd electrolytic capacitor(rang up slightly off value) Test leads not included but readily available. Old and new parts This is a Carver M-1.0t non-inverting amplifier or a later model. The unit has a stereo/mono switch on the back which allows the amp to be driven in either mode. The following upgrades have been performed on the amp. Anti thump fix. Even though this amp exhibited no need for this. This was done to prevent a potential problem. Transistor predriver and driver upgrade from 1 watt to 20 watt transistors per the carver tech manual. Carver uses three tiers of voltage which are referred to as"rails" to drive the output of the amp. Each of these"rails" or voltages is supplied to the output drivers as necessary depending on the power demand. This allows the amp to draw only the power as needed for the musical demand and ensures the amp runs efficiently. These three voltages are plus and minus 30 volts. 60 volts ... moreand 100 volts. Each rail has it's own set of power storage capacitors. Two sets of these capacitors for there respective rails have been replaced/upgraded. The 30 volt set which is where the amp normally runs has been upgraded from a 3300 microfarad cap to a 10,000 microfarad cap. The 60 volt supply caps have been upgraded from 3300 microfarad to 10,000 microfarad caps. The 100 volt supply retains its original capacitors for fitment reasons. Voltages and biases have been adjusted to carver specs. There are plenty of reviews of this amp and specs are readily available over the web. New caps. Old caps. Old and new parts.

This is a lightly used smooth Running Sears Craftsman 1/2 Horse Power Electrical Motor from a wood Lathe. It is a reversible Capacitor Start A.C. Motor-General Application and Jointer wood shaper planer belt and disk sander etc. Currently wired CCW at shaft end of the right shaft.the right shaft is keyed@ 2" long 5/8" diameter. The left shaft is 1/2" diameter flat sided@ 1 1/4" flat 1 1/2" overall. In very good working condition some wear and minor rust but runs strong. Comes with the mounting plate. Here is a special cap checker. The Electronics Measurements Corporation model 801 resistance capacitance bridge. Special because it has IN circuit test functions that check for open, short, and intermittent condition! And it has a ratio measurement function to compare a known resistor, choke, coil, transformer, speaker, or condenser to an unknown therefore finding the unknown value. Most unusual and versatile. Also has your normal bridge and leakage testing out of circuit. Also has power factor testing. A measure of power loss in the cap do to it's internal resistance. I opened it(no stripped screws or threads) Cleaned it(just dust, no bugs) then warmed it slowly on a variac over hours. Hooked an electrolytic to it and used the bridge function to confirm the caps' rating. the eye was fuzzier at the edges than in the pics of the leakage ... moretest but it was readable and gave the correct value of the cap. I then proceded to the leakage test. I liked using the variable voltage control and watched the eye tube narrow a bit as the voltage was increased to 450V then quickly rebound to max opening signaling a good cap. This tester is working correctly and gave good results. It may benefit from a recap job itself but seems to be ok as is. No leads included but it does accept either bare end wire or banana plug as input. I'm including a reprint of the original manual and schematic that describes all the testing procedures very clearly. I don't have any test cables to include, but I used a couple of different generic/cheap sets of BNC to alligator clips from China and the'Lead Zero' works with them on both settings(open and short) so you should be able to use a set you have, or order a set on ebay for $5. The unit is in great condition. Shows less than typical wear and tear as you can see in the pictures. I tested several capacitors, inductors, and switching transformers and it was right on. It's hard to believe they quit making these handy items, every bench should have one. My custom Armatar Vivitar 283 w/ 2 capacitors and 3.5mm sync on the side. This flash has a 8.20 volt sync trigger so you won't fry your camera or ebay triggers. Comes with a lumedyne reflector, but no bulb. The HHsync hotshoe is not hooked up, but you can if you want, I just liked the ability to either use the hotshoe or the screwhole on the bottom to mount directly to a lightstand. Works great. You'll love the light from it. You can use most turbo batteries with the right cord. A quantum CV cord. Paypal only.
