Here is a vintage. All tube, Heathkit audio signal generator model SG-72A. This unit is identical to the IG-72A except from what I understand, the S denotes it was factory built. As you can tell from the faceplate silkscreen, the SG-72A was made after Schlumberger bought Heathkit. Other nearly identical Heathkit generators to this one include the IG-72 and the IG-9. This unit is very clean and very presentable in your shop. I touched up some paint chips on the black case and installed the banana jacks where a BNC connector was mounted. The banana jacks are not Heathkit originals. But look very similar. Because of its age, this instrument has some minor flaws. Note that the lettering in the area of the INT/EXT switch is slightly faded. There is some tarnish around the banana jacks. The meter face has some haze just above the adjustment screw, ... morebut the scale area is clear. These are just some of the more obvious flaws. Please take a close look at the pictures for more details. This generator is fully working. I calibrated it. But please note that my test equipment, though good enough for rock'n roll, probably wouldn't meet NBS accuracy. Case in point is my B&W Model 400 Distortion Meter which measured less than 0.1% distortion. But I bet my trusty 400 is not very far off. One of the pictures shows the scope trace of the actual output. Included is a bound copy of the IG-72 manual.

This is a Lafayette KT-208 combination signal generator and signal tracer. Output bands are 250-850 KC. 850-3000 KC, 3.0-11.0 MC, 11-45 MC, and 35-120 MC(which is actually just the 3rd harmonic of the 11-45MC band) You can tell the equipment is old since it is marked in KC and MC rather than KHz and MHz. The schematic for the equipment is dated 1/10/62. The equipment is in pretty good condition, particularly considering its age. There are some small scuffs and scratches in the case paint, but nothing major. Front panel is in good condition; everything is easily readable; There is a bit of a crack in the pointer of the frequency knob. Unit works, all controls work as expected except that at some point the tone stops, my opinion is one of the main tuning cap rotor plates is shorting to stator, causing the tone to stop abruptly as you turn the frequency knob. Tested and Working Serial Number 310-18603 This is a really nice piece of vintage tube test gear that is still very popular with hobbyists and collectors. I have confirmed on the bench that this signal generator will output a distortion-free sine wave between 20Hz and 40KHz at 24.5VRMS into a 600 ohm resistive load across its entire frequency range. Which meets the original specification for this item. I will forward my oscilloscope screenshots of the output signal at full amplitude and at various output frequencies upon request, as I have exceeded my picture count for this item and can't include them here. Fully tested and ready for use right out of the box. I have done the following to bring this item into working condition: 1. Replaced the AC line cord; someone had chopped ... morethe ground prong off of the plug on the original cord. And it was also in bad condition regardless 2. Replaced a faulty 6AQ6A tube in the oscillator stage with a NOS RCA 6AQ6A tube 3. Performed a cosmetic cleaning of the case. Knobs and front panel 4. Oiled the bearings and gears of the front panel frequency selection mechanism and the frequency range switch mechanism. As they were both a little"sticky" 5. Taped up the leather carrying handle with black electrical tape to prevent any further deterioration of the handle Disclosures: 1. There is a very small 60Hz signal"riding on" the output signal when the 1X frequency range is selected and the output amplitude is adjusted for maximum. This appears to happen on the 1X range only. 2. The scale on the large frequency dial is"off" a little. For example the dial must be set to around 940Hz to output a 1000Hz signal. This could be ignored if you are using an external device to verify the output frequency, such as an oscilloscope or counter, and which is a good practice anyway. 3. It does work and I tested it for about 15 minutes while listening with a signal tracer. The frequency of the signal it produces ranges from 10 cycles to 100.000 cycles per second. It is controlled with 3 knobs and there are 400 frequencies available. There is a wide range of output level settings as well as a choice of low and hi impedances. The meter is a nice feature and can be very handy. This will be a great tool for someone working in audio equipment and radios.
