Receivers, or transmitting equipment, or as a signal source to a commercial FM radio station power transmitter. Because the frequency range stretches from 100kHz up to 170MHz, they are useful on AM, FM, Aviation com and VOR systems as well as a test system to interface to a GPIB controller to test electronics equipment. These were new in 2007 for $3950 each. Since these are the S1 version, they are set up to use RDS, Radio Data System to allow you to transmit text, song names, etc to equipped receivers. Most of them have never been used in class. I have fired them up and connected them to a frequency counter(which will also sell on ebay once I get all the ... moregenerators gone) with a 50ohm attenuator which shows the transmitting frequency, so they work. From what I can tell, something like a Panasonic 81 series, a Kenwood 5150, or a Kikusui 4310 are similar.
