Walthers HO Scale 40' Refrigerated Containers
Up for auction is a pair of Walters HO scale 40' refrigerated containers. One is lettered for Dole and the other COSCO(China Ocean Shipping CO) They are used but in good condition. They are not weathered so that can be left up to the winner. The one container has a painted mark from where I was once a member of a model train club and we had to have a unique identifier on all equipment. this komu1 represents the pervasiveness of special produce and fish express trains in japanese freight railroading history.japan started refrigerated produce freight service in 1908; although during WWI most of the refrigerator rolling stock was destroyed by allied bombing. The service was slowly restored with 60 kph unit trains dedicated to the trade. however, by the 1980s, truck service had replaced the rail lines and the refrigerated container cars disappeared as part of the overall decline of japanese freight tonnage. the komu1 was introduced into service in the 1960's and rode the narrow gauged Japanese rails at the acme of the"flying fish" era.incidentally, in the japanese freight car nomencalture system, ko means a container carrying flat car and mu means capable of loading 14 to 16 tons; the containers hold 5 tons each. ... morei am selling as my model railroad is getting out of the"fish" business to concentrate on oil transportation.
