WWII U.S. Navy Ship S S George Gipp Oil Container Gipper Notre Dame Reagan RARE
This is an oil container I think. From the World War 2 WWII Liberty Ship The S. S. George Gipp known as"The Gipper" at Notre Dame. The Gipper was played by Ronald Reagan in the movie"Knute Rockne, All American" Where the famous line"Win one for thye Gipper" came from. This piece of navy equipment came from the liberty ship named for George Gipp. The S.S. George Gipp was launched on May 16, 1943 and scrapped in 1971. It has a brass valve at the wide end and a lid like a gas cap by that. The tapered end also has a brass valve to let the oil drain. The gas cap type lid is to fill it I think and the top valve is for letting in air so it will drain easier. I have never seen any thing like this before let alone one named after such a famous athlete. George Gipp was born in 1895 and died in 1920 with a throat infection ... moreafter beating Northwestern in his senior year at Notre Dame. It is stenciled with black letters on on standard gray. It is cone shaped and about 16 inches tall. The round top is about 8 3/8 inches in diameter. It's made from heavy sheet metal. A very solid piece and heavy. I have these for years but really didn't use them and they are in great condition. Look at picture of bottoms. Thought that meant 5 quart but measured and I believe these are 4 quart? Lids work prefect and are clear and great for organizing and stacking! Blohm & Voss Shipyard Hamburg Germany 2 Posters Container Ship Dry Dock
Here we have a pair of 16.5” x 23” posters showing aerial views of the Blohm& Voss shipyard in Hamburg. Germany, probably in the 1990’s. One shows a P&O container ship in the process of having a new midbody installed and the other shows various vessels in drydock. Condition on both is good with a slight wrinkle on one(about 1” long) and some bumps to the edges but no other damage. These have been rolled. Shipping by media mail. Item guaranteed as described.
