Singer 29K171 leather sewing machine, treadle, later version of 29-4 29K, 29-K71
For sale: Singer 29K171 boot. Leather, canvas etc sewing machine. Unit will sew thru approximately 3/8" leather depending on material. Adjustable stitch length up to 1/4. Sewing head revolves 360 degrees to enable the operator to sew in any direction without stopping. This is the newer version of the old Singer 29-4 and 29K series. The main difference is the design of the presser foot tension assembly and a removable bobbin carrier/drive assembly. It also has a lock stud to maintain a constant sewing direction if the 360 degree feature isn't desired. The interior front leg had a small hairline crack which was repaired with JB weld. It holds perfectly and is as strong as the cast iron. It can be easily touch-up painted. But I felt it only honest to state this repair in the listing. This unit has very nice original paint. These machines were designed for leather patching, shoe repair, and harness making. They were incredibly well made and are still highly sought after by cobblers, harness makers, leather patch sewers, etc. Treadle style but can also be sewn with by hand, using the balance wheel for slower stitches. Singer 29K60. Long arm cylinder arm sewing machine for leather, saddlery, tack, harness, sail, canvas, etc. This is the long arm version. Having a lower arm of 18” in length. The presser foot will accommodate up to approximately 5/16 inch of leather or material. Depending on what you’re sewing. Serial# is ED326164. Indicating it was manufactured in 1946 in Great Britain. This machine was purchased back in July and completely gone through. It now sews flawlessly. And has had a new revolving bush handle and feeding motion ring slide bar installed. The entire unit has been taken apart down to the last bolt. Brushed, cleaned and has had several new parts installed besides those listed above. The machine then received 3 coats of primer. Was sanded, and has 2 coats of automotive grade paint, as well as 4 coats of clear coat, which has been buffed ... moreto a high shine. All the decals are new. And have been clear coated also. For those of you who are not familiar with the 29k series versus the 29-4. I’ll provide a brief summary: The 29K series was manufactured after the 29-4. With the optional 18” arm as well as the standard 12” This machine. Being a 29K series, has the newer presser foot pressure mechanisms, and has the LARGE bobbin and shuttle. Making re-winding of the lower bobbin less frequent. The handwheel can also disengaged by a simple turn of a knob and allows the bobbin winder to be utilized without turning the rest of the machine. This is very helpful if the necessity arises to fill the bobbin while sewing…no need to remove the work or clear the needle plate. This machine can be easily motorized or mounted to a treadle stand. It stitches well and the foot has great lift. I have included as part of the sale everything you need to get started sewing and making money with this machine by repairing shoes and clothes as well as sewing patches on vests. Included with the sale are scissors, threading wire, eleven extra needles, three extra bobbins, a screw driver and an awl to press down the pin to easily access the shuttle and bobbin. Great vintage units for reservice or for vintage look. Built in the 1920s, they are manual and have the treadles and everything turns easily. Serial numbers on all three. Great looking piece in very good Condition.Moves freely and appears to be in working condition. Has bobbin still in it. I have sold many of these and never have had issues on the other end with its workings. Definitely needs a tune up. Unusual in that it doesn't have a model number tag and the gears are open to view. Might be an earlier model. Has a wear mark groove in one small area. Singer 29-4 Cobbler Shoe Sewing Machine Sewn Off/Serviced
All of the machines that leave my shop function exactly as they would new from Singer if not better! All my machines are shipped with needles. Bobbins, thread and a threader so you are ready to start when you get it! We go through all the functional parts of the machine paying close attention as to not remove the character of the machine. We like to call our type of restorations more of a resto-mod to accommodate the use of motors on our machines but leaving the characteristic patina.
