Old Military Food and Beverage Container. 3 gallon believed to be vintage WW ll era possibly from use in the west coast shipyards. Manufactured by American Production Company, Redwood City, California it is a Super Chef Insulated Food and Beverage container, model# MIL, 3 gallons capacity, series# 1287. It is military OD in color and has the marking 1371 on the back, there are some markings stamped on the bottom that look like 1345 and 25 in stencil and 0097420? that appear to be die punched. The container does show it's age and I think it is made of stainless steel and aluminium, the toggle on the faucet is broken off, plastic) and it needs a new opening gasket. The American Production Company is still in business, they opened in 1941, and parts are available to replace any part on the container. These were used for food but also for other used like blood plasma. The last photo is from The GI Collectors Guide showing the can with the three stacked inserts. This is in partially restored condition. Apparently the can had rusted or corroded thru and someone had welded or soldered up the holes along the bottom of the can. There is some light rusting. You are bidding on a very nice M1941 Military container. This one is in very good condition especially compared to how these are normally found. The enamel has a small spot missing on the interior side. Otherwise very nice throughout. There is also a small dent in the edge of the lid, but it does not affect the lid sealing. Overall very nice and solid. There is also some white paint spatter on the outside, but that could be removed easily. It is marked on the bottom of the lid under the enamel.
