THIS UNIT DOES POWER UP BUT NO OTHER TESTING HAS BEEN DON E AS WE ARE NOT FAMILIAR ON HOW TO OPERATE AND SHOULD BE BY A QUALIFIED TECHNI CIAN! The Veeco four point probe is used for measuring resistivity and calculating sheet resistance of samples. Veeco can penetrate thin insulating surface layers by applying a short 170v pulse to the probe tips when the penetrate function is selected. Then. After making the resistivity measurement, the unit can determine the type of the semiconductor. For low resistivity samples the type is determined by applying an ac signal between two probes and monitoring the dc bias of the wafer with a third probe. Lightly doped semiconductors will form rectifying contacts with the probe tips causing the wafer bias to go up(positive) for N type material ... moreand negative for P type material. Highly doped semiconductors will not develop a conclusive wafer bias, but the applied ac signal can heat such material sufficiently for observation of the thermoelectric effect(as in the hot-point probe) If neither method is conclusive, both N and P indicators will flash. The operating principles for resistivity measurements are the same as for the LDS four point probe. But the Veeco requires a different geometry correction factor for sheet resistance. Refer to GT-3 for correction factor determination. But divide the number by 4.53 for the Veeco. The probe spacing S is 25 mil. Showing some minor signs of wear. It powers up, and the stage moves around, and the lights on the scan tower illuminate. After the system initialized and the computer fully booted up, we were able to access the Dektak software, and get it to make various scans on a wafer(please see the photos above for various screen shots) We were also able to make the scan tower move into the up and down positions, and to get the stage to move into the load and home positions. I'm not sure how to test all of this ... moresystem's functions, but it appears to be doing what it is supposed to. You will likely need to have it checked out and calibrated though, if you need it to make super accurate measurements. It is available for inspection at our warehouse in Morgan Hill, CA.
