Balzers BAF 400 Freeze Etching System For sale- a Balzers Union BAF 400 Freeze Etching System. Theoretically this would be used“for the application of freeze fracture. Freeze etching, rotary shadowing and various high vacuum procedures which can provide chemical free fixation and the exposure of cell components. I lifted that quote from a Northwestern University description of their facilities. Presumably they know what they are talking about. But I don’t know that this particular BAF 400 has those capabilities. In virtually every place it pops up on the internet it is mentioned as being for electron microscope sample prep. And more specifically for TEM sample prep. Please note that I am not selling this as a turnkey. Working system. I list it as used because for all I know with a little work it may in fact be ready for service. At the very ... moreleast the pump control/power supply and power distribution units had been removed from the main console and I am pretty sure I saw a few wires that had been cut to do so. But they might have just been ground wires. So again. This thing is going to take a bit of work to get it put back together again. NO roughing pump is included; however. The system is fitted with a Pfeiffer TPH 510 Turbo Pump. The TCP 300 Power Supply shows 05836 hours on the clock. I don’t know how many hours the turbo lasts before it needs a rebuild. But IF it works the pump alone is worth the asking price for the whole system. Throw in the electronics. DN16(KF16) exhaust flange, and G 1/8" venting connection. This Pfeiffer HiPace 300 pump comes with an integrated electronic drive unit, model TC 400 which operates on 24 VDC. This turbo pump has a pumping speed of 260 l/sec with nitrogen. This pricing is for the HiPace 300 turbo drag pump and the TC400 Electronic Drive Unit mounted on the side of the pump only. This was pulled from transfer chamber only exposed to N2. But I was not able to see running. It spins good by hand.

The Controller has a high-efficiency. Auto-ranging power supply which adjusts itself to any external electrical supply in the specified voltage range. The power supply converts the single-phase electrical supply into a regulated d.c. electrical supply to control the operation of the EXT pump. The pump has three Hall effect devices which operate as rotor position sensors. These sensors ... moreensure that the drive current is correctly switched to the phase-windings of the pump-motor. The Hall effect devices also generate a speed signal which the Controller uses to regulate the rotational speed of the pump. The Controller has a secondary regenerative supply which uses the d.c. motor of the EXT pump as a generator. If the electrical supply fails. The regenerative supply provides the Controller with a back-up source of power without the need for batteries.
