HEATHKIT RF-1 RF Generator. It is in very good physical and(with 1 exception) functional condition. The cabinet looks nearly new. With a fresh paint job. The RF-1 appeared about 1960 and was produced until about 1963 when it was replaced by the IG102. The primary difference were changes in the cabinet and look(esthetics) of the unit. The circuits are identical. This unit can be set to any desired frequency from about 100Khz to 110 Mhz via a 6 position range switch and and adjustable vernier dial and pointer. RF frequencies with adjustable attenuation via a 3 position coarse and a continuously variable fine attenuation control. This unit is useful anywhere an unmodulated RF signal between 100Khz and 110 Mhz is needed like: testing filter circuits. Adjusting tuners, receivers. shortwave radios, transceivers and any other kinds of frequency ... moresensitive circuit devices. A needed tool for most any workbench! This unit has had the new BNC connectors installed in place of the original style microphone"button" connector. This gives you easy latitude to obtain and use any number of coaxial test leads and connectors commonly used on today's benches(I felt this was important to do) I provide a brand new coaxial BNC terminated set of test leads with gator clip ends to start you off. The switches have been cleaned. The controls have been cleaned and lubricated. And the unit was adjusted for output over all ranges. I checked the electrolytic capacitors for condition and filtration. The signal is clean and quite accurate throughout the ranges and the top most range(110mhz) is quite strong in signal(often this is not so) I like my cabinets to look good and this one was missing some paint. Unit powers on and the 10 MHz reference signal works(confirmed by a frequency counter in the second picture) First picture shows result of pressing the status button. The relays can be heard clicking as the output power is increased or decreased. All front panel buttons seem to respond as expected. And tested special function codes work(e.g. Deviation meter code goes to correct setting- but don't know if the deviation meter works) Could be as simple as an internal fuse for all I know. I would suspect that this needs a recap like the other gear in this lot. The old wax and paper caps were literally melting away. I have not taken it apart or done any work on it. The attenuator turns and moves fluidly without issue. It does not have a glass plate in front of the dial and only 1 light is good. Check out the pics for cosmetic condition.
