Even though it does work the same, I found the cord got in my way too much for my purposes. I use my battery operated sealer to make my own plastic bags for bolts of fabric which requires a long length of plastic bag to be sealed and the cord is a little cumbersome for such a big job. I did not try it on potato chip bags. But I'm sure it works just fine. The trick with these heat sealers is not how much pressure you apply to the surface you are sealing but the speed at which you pull the sealer across the surface you are sealing. Anyway. It was an experiment and I personally sealed two 9" plastic bags with this unit without issue. I can vouch that the sealing element does heat and it does seal.
