Old Harvey Era Dragon's Breath Sterling Ring Size 7.75 Large Stone
This is a listing for a Native American Harvey era ring made from a dragon's breath art glass stone and sterling silver. It's stamped sterling. The stone is large. Giving the face of the ring a measurement of 1 and 3/16th inches in length and 11/16th inches in width. The stone itself measures 7/8th inches in length and 5/8th inches in width. Dragon's breath stones are relatively rare.definitely not common, and they were used occasionally in these early souvenir pieces. This ring is large for a souvenir Harvey era ring. It weighs a very sturdy 14.2 grams and is in excellent condition with no damage of any sort and a warm aged patina. The ring has maintained an excellent round shape and is a size 7.75, although for some reason, it feels slightly larger than that when you wear it. It wears like a size 8. Dragon's breath looks ... moresomewhat like a foiled art glass. But it isn't. No foil is used in the process and it's iridescent qualities are a property of the glass itself, and not from metallic foil. It's not an easy stone to photograph and always appears more beautiful in life. It's fiery magical properties are what gave it it's name, and the stone's character changes with the changing light, throwing out all shades of red, pink and purple. Being glass, and being from the early decades of the 1900's, it will show some surface wear, of course. But this ring is excellent without the dulling that you will see sometimes with heavily worn glass. It was cut into an oval shape and has an extra high dome. The artist gave the ring a clean look with a smooth bezel mounting and simple twisted rope border. Fourteen drops of silver. Seven on top and seven on the bottom, add some flair and beauty, without overpowering the stone. The shank and band are formed form flattened wire, with a split shank shoulder and straight edged band. The silver is accented with classic Harvey symbols of zigzags, full suns, diamonds and arrows. It has a beautiful faceted center stone that appears to be clear but picks up whatever colors are around it. The bracelet measures approximately 7-3/8" around the inside in wearable length. Measures approximately 2" by 205/16" when closed. The top center measures nearly 1-3/4" and the stone is approximately 15mm. Measures just 1-1/8" across the hinge and 1" at the middle back. But most of the silvery plating has worn away through the years. This button has an odd shank, and may possibly have been part of a cufflink or other piece of jewelry. I do not know if they are earlier than the 2002-2003 catalog and my internet searches have not returned any information. Therefore, I cannot confirm they are from Silpada. This pair of hoop earrings are approx. 1 1/2" in diameter. The back third of the hoop has spaced small silver balls soldered to the wire while the rest of the wire is covered with multiple shapes and sizes of silver beads with an 8mm blue stone bead.
