Found at an Estate we are cleaning out this Multi Stone Brooch with a clip on the back. Not sure if the clip is original to the piece. It does look very old to me. It measures 1 3/4" tall and 1 1/2" wide, I think it is made of Lead or Pot Metal. The stones are blue, yellow, green and red and there are stones missing, 5 by my count. Rare Terra Cotta Pottery Stone Ware Advertising Shoe
A rare Americal stone ware slip glazed shoe 4 1/2 inches long and 3 inches tall by the Philadelphia Terra Cotta Works and so marked. There is a striker on the side so it was likely sold a a match holder. Small chip on the outer rim and a larger flake inside the top rim. My research show the company was started in 1868 by Wm. Galloway and John Graff at 1723-1725 Market Street; the pottery showed at the 1876 Centennial Expo and also at the 1891 Chicago World Expo where they won Grand Prize. There may be a couple pin head nips here or there that I have overlooked but nothing major and the photos show the 2 larger flakes. A very unique and folky item in early advertising pottery and fresh from a Maine coastal estate. Estimated S and I by parcel post is $10.00.
