Mid century statue or bust of a greek mythology fiqure possibly a Centaur. It was found at estate sale. Large Enhydro + Stingless Bee w/ Resin on Legs in Authentic Dominican Amber
Dominican amber is known for the clarity as well as variety of its inclusions. Such things as insects. Arachnids, and botanicals can be found. This amber fossil from the mines in the Dominican Republic contains a large enhydro(water with moving air bubble) and a stingless bee(genus Proplebeia. Species dominicana, now extinct) with a very rarely seen resin ball on one of its hind legs. The bee was apprently gathering resin to help in constructing/repairing a nest when it got caught between 17 and 20 million years ago. The water in this enhydro has been trapped for between 17 and 20 million years according to geological studies. Please have a look at the pictures and note how the air bubble moves! Unlike those stingless bees found in Colombian copal. This particular species is now confirmed to be extinct. They would collect resin from the amber tree( Hymenaea protera. Now extinct) in order to build their nests. Hence, they would often get caught. This piece of all-natural authentic Dominican amber from the mines in the Dominican Republic represents an excellent example of resin flow layering! and contains amongst these layers a psocopteran. Five gnats, a beautiful springtail, beetle, and midge. A superb example of resin flow over time like tree ring growth. The majority of piece is polished while one side is in rough as mined. Dominican fossil amber is known for the clarity of its inclusions including such things as insects. Arachnids, and botanicals. All amber I offer is authentic. Non-treated material. Many of these specimens have been hand-sanded and polished by me. They have not been reconstituted nor are they plastic.
