This is an old statue/figurine of a beautiful Japanese woman/ Geisha that was displayed on my mother's fireplace mantle for many years. And has been mine for several years after settling her estate in early 2000. I don't know the age or composition. Possibly Santini resin( It's beautiful. Very decorative, and the detail is remarkable on the basket, long-sleeved robe, flowing scarf with fringe, hair, face, hands, etc. Signed on the back bottom robe area(see photo) Measures 13-1/2" tall. Unpacked weight approx. 2-1/2 pounds. Very good condition with no breaks or cracks. There is soiling in the creases. Surface darkening, and some of the black paint has faded from the base, which I don't believe is wood.

The bow is in equally beautiful condition. I can find no makings on it. I am guessing it was part of the set when purchased. Super RARE Centipede + Bee Caught in Resin Tube in Authentic Dominican Amber
Dominican amber is known for the clarity as well as variety of its inclusions. Such things as insects. Arachnids, and botanicals can be found. This large. 12.4 gram, polished amber fossil from the Palo Alto group of mines in the Dominican Republic represents a super rare find: a curled centipede and a stingless bee(genus Proplebeia. Species dominicana, now extinct) caught in a resin tube! The resin tube extends throughout part of the piece and has a cherry red color and represents an earlier resin flow engulfed by a later one. Sometimes referred to as"amber in amber. The centipede and bee have been trapped within the earlier(darker) resin flow for between 17 and 20 million years. A very interesting piece in my opinion! Unlike those stingless bees found in Colombian copal. This particular species is now confirmed to be extinct. The bee ... morecan be seen at arm's length. Please mouse over images to see the pictures better. Stingless bees are the most common bee found in Dominican amber. They would collect resin from the amber tree( Hymenaea protera. Now extinct) in order to build their nests. Hence, they would often get caught. Rarely, stingless bees can be found with resin balls on their hind legs. This one does contain resin balls. I very rarely come across bees with resin. Do please consider the very rare burmese(burmite) amber along with my large Colombian copal specimens with a variety of inclusions I am currently listing at low starting bids.
