This is a miner's safety lamp that was produced by the Wolf Safety Lamp Company of Sheffield. England. Miners would use these lamps to test for dangerous gasses in the mine by watching for changes in color of the lamp's flame. The flame color would indicate which gasses were present. This lamp features a hose nipple for the attachment of a flexible hose and a 45 degree mirror. These would allow the miner to reach around a corner a still be able to view the flame with the mirror. This was produced sometime after 1900 and before the early 1930s. The lamp stands 10-1/4" 26 cm) tall. With the hanger extended it is 14-3/4" 37.5 cm) in length. The base is 3-3/8" 9.8 cm) in diameter. It is constructed entirely of brass. The viewing glass is in great condition without chips or cracks. The chimney screen appears intact. This auction is for a 1930's Coronet'Scoper' print viewer. When closed the iewer measures 10 x 6.25 x 0.75 cm and 17.5 cm when opened. The glass pops up automatically and the base slides in and out to focus. The viewer has a small amount of surface wear as per the photos but is in very good condition.
