I obtained the entire kit at an auction and I sold the gear a long time ago and I just found the manuals under the foam in the cool aluminum case. note. I will sell that case too. if interested. Here is the perfect item you've been looking for for your bomb/zombie shelter. I am not sure if the items works. If I had to guess, I would say that it does work. It was found in the basement of a school in Detroit Michigan along with another, slightly newer one. I've listed the other one also, and that one does work. I don't think either of them were ever used and the boxes are even in good shape, no water damage or anything. I t runs on 1"D" battery and 2- 22-1/2 volt miniature hearing aid batteries according to the instruction booklet and I do not have any hearing aid batteries. It does seem to be in great condition. Very clean, especially the inside, no corrosion or anything else. Geiger Counter The Victoreen Instrument Co Model No 5 Radiation Detector CDV-710
In 1962. The 710 was superseded by the model 715 and the existing stocks were excessed, often with the Civil Defense logo removed or defaced. The problem with the CD V-710 was its relatively low range: it didn't extend beyond 50R/hr. When the 710 was first produced, its range seemed perfectly adequate- it had been developed for atomic warfare that involved the use of"conventional" fission weapons. By the early 1960s however, it was realized that the exposure rates resulting from the use of the newer thermonuclear weapons(fission-fusion devices) would be much higher. In September 1985. FEMA sent a notification to the maintenance and calibration facilities indicating that all models of the CD V-710 were obsolete. This Geiger Counter cosmetically looks to be in good shape.
