Rare 1951 Vintage Hardy Crown Houghton 10ft split cane fly rod (see pics)
This STUNNING 10’ 3 piece split cane rod is marked with the magic'Hardy' name along with Royal Warrants. It has the Reg. No. E76034 dating this rod to 1951. It has striking olive green eyelet wingdings and bronze lock-fast ferrules. It has a cork handle with a little damage as in picture and an alloy reversible butt spear that fits inside the handle. There is one eyelet missing also shown in picture This rod is an absolutely stunning example. With little damage for its age. Vintage Hardy Palakona " The Halford Knockabout" 2 Piece Split Cane Rod & Bag
This is a unique and beautiful rod built in 1963 according to the serial number H53572A. The overall length is 9' 6" and marked as 7# The wrapping is clean and guides are sound. it has a unique ferrule with a pin which is great condition. There is a screw out piece in the butt which I do not know the purpose. Comes with original bag that is faded and stained but is complete and functional with no rips. The rod measures approx. 15 foot. including the handle) in overall length. The fittings and reel seat rings to the butt section are in alloy, they do have small areas of discolouration. It has two"Stud lockjoints" which are a good snug fit. All of the rings are present and well attached, the top ring is agate lined and one side of the butt ring is whipped with copper wire for additional strength as are both sides of the joints. The rest ... moreof the green and burgundy whipping is in good order, the rod has a slight kink or"set" to the right in the middle section between the second and third rings. There is no cracking or crazing to the varnish that I can find and the cork handle is good and smooth. The aluminum butt has the Royal Appointment Crests. The fittings and adjustable"screw-grip" reel seat to the butt section are in aluminium, these do show some minor patches of discolouration and the rubber butt end is a little rough and discoloured. It has"lockfast" joints. Which are all marked with the number"2" they have retained much of their original finish and are a good snug fit. All of the rings are present and ... morewell attached, the top and bottom ring are agate lined. The burgundy whipping is in good order and the joints have been whipped in copper wire for additional strength. There is no crazing to the varnish but there are one or two small chips and fading in colour to the whipping underneath the rings. There is also a small section in between the 4th and 5th rings to the top section where the varnish has lost colour. The top section of the rod has a slight kink or set to the right. The aluminum butt and reel ring has"Made by Hardy's England" and the number"H62331" 1964) Just above the handle the rod has"Regd. Early HARDY Split Cane 2pc Fly Fishing Rod c/w Tube/ Spear- 17940/ c.1892 Ref: DU I am offering for auction a very nice two section HARDY Fly Rod. Which comes complete with second tip, bamboo tip tube, butt extension and pad/spear. The rod comes in an original/period three section cloth bag with zip up pocket to store the"optional exras. The serial number(17940) stamped on the butt dates it to 1892. Making this a very early example. The rod has two original tips. One is the same length as the butt section, while the other is shorter and heavier by design. I am pretty certain the shorter tip remains it's original design length as the bag has a pocket exactly the right length. When assembled with just the but pad(ie without the handle extension) the rod measures 10ft 6" with the long tip and 8ft with the shorter tip. The handle ... moreextension adds about 4ins to the overall length. The shorter tip has agate line guides. While the longer tip has brass casting style guides and comes in it's original bamboo tube. This rod is slightly unusual insofar it has a leather bound handle with optional extension(also leather bound) In addition it has the option of a traditional rubber butt pad or brass spear. Both original and stored in the bag. The handle has the usual W Reg'd Hardy patented reel seat. The brass encap is clearly marked Hardy Bros. Maker. Alnwick and carries the serial number. Overall the rod is in very good condition as follows: All guides look to be original and in excellent condition. With no damage or major corrosion. The butt and shorter tip sections are all agate(red) lined, which no chips or cracks to the linings. As far as I can tell all guide and intermediate whippings appear to be original. Whilst they have darkened with age and one or two are a little dry overall condition of the whipping is excellent. The varnish is generally in very good condition. Hardy Split Cane Three Piece Fly Fishing Rod, With Two Tips And Wading Stick.
The wading stick is hollow. Has a brass cap, and one of the spare tips fits inside. I'm not sure what the material is but it's absolutely gorgeous. It has a six inch hairline split about 15" from the bottom so would need a epoxy? repair before it could be actually used as a wading stick. Personally I wouldn't use it for wading it would get wrecked. Now to the rod. There is a screw missing from the bottom reel seat fitting which has three small screws going into cork. Slightly larger screws would beef up this fitting. The rings. Whippings, ferrules and fixings all look to be in good order. One of the top sections, I assume the one which has been used, has a slight bend in it, and light line wear, however the spare top section is straight as an arrow and in the finest fettle. The canvas bag unfortunately. Is not the original ... morebut fitting for a rod from this period. This item will be carefully packed and tracked. Hardy Palakona Perfection split cane fly rod 1905
This is a Hardy's Palakona"Perfection" two piece split cane fly rod. It is marked on the split cane part of the butt section Palakona Regd No 246936 and the butt brass plate is marked A 4983. The literature suggests that the plate means that this rod was made in 1905 when Chelsea were elected to the Football League. Edward VII was on the throne and Sherlock Holmes was first solving mysteries.The butt section is 53" and the tip is 41.5" and I'll leave any further detective work to you.

Here is a nice vintage Hardy Bros split can fishing rod. No damage or repairs found. When together it measures about 82 inches long. The rod itself measures 68 inches with 2 inches of that fitting into the handle. I can not make out the writing on the pole near the handle. Includes the original carrying bag and spanner wrench. Bag has been poked through at the end and wrench has a little rust. Both easy to fix, but hard to find. Also includes the wood and cork cap that goes into the handle to protect the end. A wonderful antique Hardy Brothers Palakona Royal"Wee Murdoch" split cane rod. The rod has year number A75203. Which dates it to 1912. To H.M. King George V" is stamped at the base of the butt. Overall the condition is very good, rings and whipping are original, although the rod has clearly seen use. There are six sections; the butt. Middle and four tip sections. The rod, depending on which tip is used, measures 12' 7" 11' 7" or 9' 10" The butt section has a cork handle with a Hardy's Universal reel fitting and a red india rubber butt cap. The butt and tip rings are agate lined, the others are Hardy bridge guides. The cane has good colour and is free from damage. The brass ferrules and studlocks are in good working order and have lovely patina. The six section rod bag is original. The ferrule ... moreprotectors are turned from rosewood. Other than some crazing to the varnish and agate missing from the ring of the short tip section this rod is in good and original condition. The lonest section of the Ogden Smith rod is 54" and the metal fittings are tarnished. There is some damage to the cork section. And minor marks of use to the shafts. The Farlow and Hardy Perfection rods have longest sections of 58" and show minor signs of use/scuffs to the various sections. All the canvas cases show signs of age and are marked. The varnish has discoloured underneath the whipping and there are some chips to the varnish mainly to the bottom and middle sections. The rod also has the usual marks and scuffs you would expect from a rod of this age. The rod appears to be straight. The cork handle is missing a small patch underneath the reel seat. The aluminum butt and reel ring has"Made by Hardy's England" and the number"H60147" 1964) Just above the handle the rod has"Regd. Trademark Palakona" The Wye" and"9" hand written in indian ink. The rod has its' original bag. Ferrule stopper and spanner, there is also a spare top section, however, this is missing its' whipping to the joint and the top ring has been replaced and re-whipped. Vintage HARDY No.2 LRH Spinning Split Cane Fishing Rod- E89291/ 1953 2pc 9' 6" Ref: CB I am offering for auction a very nice two section HARDY"No. 2 LRH Spinning" Rod. The serial number(E89291) stamped on the butt dates it to 1953. The rod when assembled measures 9ft 6" long. With both sections pretty much equal in length. The butt section is clearly signed"The No. 2 L.R.H. Spinning" and carries the usual Palakona Regd Trade Mark. With the Prince Of Wales Feathers and the Royal Warrant"By Appointment" Crest on the alloy capping and reel seat. Overall the rod is in good to excellent condition as follows: All guides are original and in excellent condition. With no damage or corrosion. Apart from No 1 butt guide, all are agate lined, with no chips or cracks to the linings. A ll guide and intermediate ... morewhippings appear to be original and structurally sound. In one or two places the whipping varnish is a little dry with superficial flaking. Mainly to the butt guide whipping. One or two intermediate windings are also a little dry, but overall condition of the whippings is very good indeed. The varnish is generally in good condition. But as is to be expected, there are a few minor age-related blemishes to the finish and one or two chips, but this is typical for a rod of this vintage, so is only mentioned for the sake of absolute accuracy(see photos) The cork handle is in very good condition. With just an age-related patina and one or two superficial nicks and blemishes; cerainly no major damage. The alloy reel seat is in excellent condition, with just typical light surface wear and comes with it's original tightening tool. It has a nickel/bronzed push button joint. The male ferrule is in excellent condition. With the spring loaded button in good working condition, the female ferrule is in similar condition. So the sections join and separate nicely. The rod remains very straight with no set or memory that I can detect and the tip section can be flexed without losing it's
