Structurally, it is almost the same as a Hardy Marquis 7 Disc reel. It has a 3 5/8 in. spool diameter, with a 3/4 in. inner width, and a total weight of 5.6 oz. The reel is rated for 6 and 7 weight fly lines. It has an offset-gear disc drag system, with a spring supported steel pawl that produces a sweet clicker sound similar to a spring and pawl reel. The pawl can be disengaged if you want a quieter reel. Cleaning out the closet and have a few reels up for sale. This is a Hardy Ultralight 4000 for 4-5wt large arbor reel. It's less than a year old and absolutely beautiful and in perfect conditions. I fished it last summer and I just got a good deal on a Perfect. So I'm upgrading. I'll leave the backing on there in case you want it. This bamboo fly rod is a 7'9" Hardy C.C. de France 2/1. This rod was purchased by me from a rod builder in Balmoral. Scotland. He had completely refinished the rod"modernizing" it with standing ring ceramic guides. The rod has been completely rewrapped and revarnished and the grip cleaned. This rod casts a 5 wt line a country mile with delicacy. It could be considered a medium fast action for a bamboo rod with a very definite dry fly demeanor. The rod is exceptionally well balanced and is a joy to fish. Although my traditional sensibilities have been assaulted by the addition of the standing ceramic guides, I have to agree with the rod builder that they cast much better than the original guides. I'm an ardent fisherman and thought I would take up Fly Fishing when I retired as I had been able to purchase this exceptional Hardy bamboo rod about twenty years ago from a close family friend that had belonged to their Grandfather. He had 5 Hardy Rods. Two of which they said he had never used. I choose The Kenya. Unfortunately no reels or other equipment were to be found. Now that I'm ready to take up the sport. I feel I should"walk before run" and find some less expensive equipment. While I know very little about this calibre of Fly rods, from what I have been able to determine, my Rod is highly regarded. To my knowledge it has never been fished. Hardy's had indicated that the Kenya Model was built from 1934 to 1957 and this superb Rod was made in 1950. Hardy Fibalite Perfection #4 7'2" fiberglass Fly Rod
Here is a Hardy Fibalite#4 7'2" fiberglass fly rod in excellent condition. The only blemish is a tiny scuff on the edge of the female ferrule(see photo 7) this in no way affects the rod but good to point out to collectors. Comes in the original Hardy bag and will be packed in a PVC tube. All the wraps and guides are perfect. The cork is lovely as well. This is quite a rare rod. I must note that whilst rated for a#4 line. I(and others) prefer it with a WF5F or even a WF6F. Super smooth, but just doesn't fit with my current needs.

This is an excellent condition used Hardy 9' 5 weight 4 piece fly rod. I was going to use it as a rod for guiding but ended up fishing it myself. It is a very sensitive rod. It is a very well made and well thought out rod right down to the cork reel seat which shaves even more weight off of this rod. It is a joy to fish. And of course it is in the ever popular 9' 5 weight 4 piece configuration which makes it a very useful rod. I probably fished it 4-5 times. I'm a Hardy dealer and it was new inventory in 2010 and it got fished a handful of times in 2010 but not since. The cork still has some new softness to it. The bag and tube are original but the cap is missing. I will try to hunt that down before the auction closes because I have seen it around. The rod is an extremely rare hand made split cane 8ft 9" Parabolic Trout Fly Fishing Rod Hand Built by Robert Kirk of Hampton Court, the rod is based on the design of the CC De France RRP £3295.00 which he made for Hardy when he was a master rod builder for them, he made rods for the likes of funny man Charlie Drake and Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger! I would say it is in excellent condition for it's age and I have not attempted to clean off the vintage patina it is as original as you can get although I am sure it would look almost new with a wipe down, it is such a nice rod ... moreit will probably end up in a display cabinet again but would make anybody who uses it a very happy angler as you cant beat the feel of a true split cane rod. The reel is a vintage J.W.Young Condex that is approximately 60 years old and is in great condition as can be seen. It comes with the box which is in fairly good condition but not new as you would expect, the reel was commissioned for airbrushing after the September 9/11 attacks but the artist was not paid, I purchased it as it is a work of art and have never used it for fishing, it is fit for any display cabinet but like the rod still a usable item that will make an awesome gift for a relative or survivor and would also make an excellent investment for any fine fishing tackle collector, a much better bet than leaving your cash in the bank these days.
