Vintage Nautical Wooden Snatch Block w/Brass Swivel Hook/Lewmar?/NR
This is a vintage Nautical Wooden Snatch Block with a Brass Swivel Hook and Copper Pivots from an estate in Green Valley. AZ. I believe this to be an unusual piece of nautical hardware as I was unable to identify it online and the only blocks that come close are the early Lewmar's. Even those have a different shape to the block and what appear to be chromed hardware. One thing they have in common is the phenolic(Micarta) sheave. The sheave width is 3/4" overall with a diameter of 1.5" Overall length is 6 3/4" The white metal side straps are probably white brass as they're non-ferrous. The swivel base and clasp may also be copper as their patina is different from the brass hook above. The hook is opened by pulling on the spring-loaded pin. The only markings on the block are a"2" on one side and what appears ... moreto be a scrimmed sailboat on the other(see pics) Overall condition is very good. This is an old pulley that I used to pull wires with a rope. I have had it since Moby Dick was a minnow. I don't plan on ever using it again. The safety latch is bad and needs to be replaced. The pulley spins free. It is a little rusty. But it has been stored inside for the most part. The hook and pulley bearings seem to be fine. It has a quick release. for pulling electric cables that's almost a necessity. The pulley diameter across the center is 8" this should be about 3 tons. Let me know if you need more measurements.
