DRH Johnson? Crane Snatch Block (and tackle?) 8" Pulley 1" Rope Line 10-14 ton?
Up for auction is this vintage snatch block. I can make out"on" on it but nothing else. That leads me to believe it may be a DRH Johnson. I found it in a garage I bought. It was one of several mounted to an I-beam overhead and had a sign saying"Max. Safe Operating Capacity 10 Tons(20.000 lbs. I don't know if that is the actual rating of this piece though. I would have to assume that the rig would be labeled for the weakest component so I would also assume that this is 10 tons or more. The smallest one had a 6" pulley so I'm assuming that would be the one rated at 10 tons and this should be significantly more. It's about 20" from tip of the hook to the bottom of the pulley. The pulley is about 8 inches in diameter and looks like it had a 1" diameter cable. It's a little filthy and has some surface ... morerust but the hook swivels and the pulley rotates freely. Please note: Item will be partially disassembled in order to fit in a flat rate priority box in order to save you money as well as reach you in a lot less time. No reserve so bid to win! I actually have two of these-selling them one at a time. I found them hanging on a wall at a RV sales outfit that was liquidating all of their support materials. These appear to have never been used. Each leg of the chain measures 7 feet in length, the chain link is 7/8" in diameter. Please see photos provided showing the measurements being taken. The spreader chain& hooks are in good used condition with some rust, but no major visible damage. Please see the close-up photos I've provided of all stamping on the chain& hooks. The hooks are stamped to show that they're Alloy Cradle Hooks, the tag on the chain shows that it's Herc-Alloy 800(I believe 800 is the grade, but am not positive) that the size is 7/8 x 7 ft(I'm not sure if the"2" next to it means 2 inches or something else) also lists the serial number. Yes. I am back in the shackle business. At the latest Bethlehem Steel auction there were several lots of shackles for sale. Someone outbid me on the giant(30ton) shackles, yet left me a ton of these smaller shackles, eyebolts and clamps. I also bought over 1000 industrial wrenches. don't ask me why) My wife thought I was crazy before but now she definitely wants to commit me. For sale are five crosby shackles. They are marked 3 1/4 tons and 5/8 inch. Please note* My original plan was to take pictures of the five shackles for sale and then relist them with new pictures. Some buyers are particular about the look of the shackles. This is taking too much time so I am changing tactics. I have fifty four of these shackles(so far) The pictures show the range of condition the shackles are in. Some look newer than others. 6" CROSBY SNATCH BLOCK. 8 TON WITH HOOK. HEAVILY USED, BUT GOOD SHAPE.
This CROSBY snatch block was left behind on my property after some uninvited loggers left with one of my fallen trees following a storm. We tried to find who they were but could not. The snatch block. Sawdust, and a missing tree was the only evidence of their presence. I hope it was a fair trade. I was not a happy camper until I found the block. The snatch block looks like it has been heavily used. But also looks like it is in good shape. The 6" pulley is designed to take up to a 1" steel cable. It appears to have"8 TON" in raised print(see pic) but the number is difficult to accurately discern. If you are seriously interested in this, I would assume you know more about it than I do.
