ca1905 SODA FOUNTAIN SODA SYRUP DISPENSER / COOLER w/ MODERN ADVERTISING
Very attractive. Ca1910, Decorated Zinc Soda Fountain Syrup/ Soda Dispenser/ Cooler with contemporary decoration for Grape Smash. PLEASE NOTE- this is a wonderful, original turn of the 20th century Soda Fount Dispenser but the Grape Smash lettering and decoration is modern and although the Dispenser makes for a wonderful display piece all of the lettering and"grape" decoration has been added in the recent past. The off white paint and the pin striping on both the body of the Dispenser and on the matching Jug Cover IS original but the lettering and the"grape" decoration is modern. The original Dispenser/ Cooler itself measures approx. 13" in diameter at the base and 18" tall with the matching. Zinc Jug Cover in place. The Dispenser is composed of a heavy, thick walled zinc tub which would have been filled with ... moreice and water. Within the tub there is a heavy, ironstone container with text on the outer surface that reads in part"XX th Century Cooler" and is signed by the manufacturer Cordley& Hayes of New York City. There is a spigot attached to the front of the inner, stoneware syrup container which goes through the wall of the zinc tub and through which syrup could be dispensed. There are two zinc"collars" that fit around the mouth of the ironstone container and cover the tub. In this way the tub is well sealed and the interior acts as a fairly well insulated ice/ liquid Cooler. A jug of syrup or other liquid that was to be dispensed by this Soda Fountain Dispenser/ Cooler would be turned upside down in the mouth of the inner ironstone container. The separate zinc"Jug Cover" it looks somewhat like a small wastebasket but with a rounded bottom- top actually- to accommodate the bottom of the inverted jug) would be placed over the inverted jug of liquid further sealing the“cooler” as well as making for an attractive dispenser. Vintage float/malt mixer glass is 6 7/8" high. 4 1/8" across the top and 2 3/4" across the concave thick glass bottom. Just as Congress was passing the 18th Amendment establishing Prohibition. When Prohibition officially went into affect on January 16, 1920, some breweries turned to making a nonalcoholic drink call Near Beer, while others were churning out ice cream. The Schoenhofen Edelweiss Brewing Company of Chicago turned to Green River. The soda was poured into old beer bottles and sold in the market. It was an immediate hit. The soft drink was so popular that Al Jolson recorded a song written about Green River. The Shoenhofen Brewery- The Brewery closed in(1950) By the end of Prohibition on December 5. 1933, Green River trailed only Coke in fountain sales throughout the Midwest. Lot 1930's~HALL~SODA Fountain Antique Porcelain Pump Syrup Dispenser + EXTRAS
This auction is for a pair of antique soda fountain syrup dispensers and regular canister. Marked on each bottom: HALL- B596B- MADE IN U.S.A. some one easier to read than others) and marked on the bottom of the pumps: PAT. NO. 1919173. This patent date references to 1933 and these classic advertising syrup pumps dispensed the most favorite flavors from their age. The containers are made of porcelain with jet black exteriors and pure white interiors with an art deco lid and stainless steel pump construction. These items are fully functional and in great condition. You can see some noticeable cracks in arm dispenser but it still cleans up well and it gives it a nostalgic look. I pulled about 15 pieces and will be listing them in the up coming weeks, so please watch and let me know if you are interested in the others. Vintage ABINGDON China Soda Fountain Dispenser with Pump Cherry
This is a Vintage ABINGDON China Soda Fountain dispenser with pump. The pump seems to work fine and is marked at the top"CHERRY" The china base measures 10" X 7.5" X 4" The base has some small chips. But has no cracks and holds liquids fine, no leaks. Just needs a good cleaning. The bottom of the china base is marked ABINGDON 1712 with diamond stamp with an"A" inside.
