VINTAGE HANDCARVED CRAB BOWL SALAD SET 12 PCS KOA IRON WOOD LUAU TIKI BAR HAWAII
This auction is for a vintage carved wood salad service set in the shape of crab shells. Not sure of actual age but maybe 1950's to 1960's; the set includes the large master serving bowl, EIGHT individual salad bowls, fork/spoon salad servers and a matching ashtray; each bowl has separately carved peg"eyes" inserted at the"top" of the bowl, the serving fork/spoon are carved to look like crab claws; not 100% positive what type of wood the pieces are made of but guessing it is Koa, no markings on any of the pieces to help determine maker or origin. The master salad bowl is roughly 2.5" deep x 11" x 25" and weighs in at almost five pounds by itself-thick, heavy, solid, quality weight natural wood! The individual bowls are about 1.5" deep x 5" x 11" at the longest, the ashtray is the same ... moresize and shape as the small salad bowls but has three notched cigarette rests; utensils are roughly 13" long-kind of hard to convey the scale of the pieces when combined in a photograph, see the 12" ruler inside the master serving bowl in the third listing picture! The set is in overall very good vintage condition with no excessive wear or age related damage, no cracks/splits in wood from dryness but could use a good oiling to restore a few areas, an easy process described on many online sites; one of the individual salad bowls has a chipped end point, it is still with the piece and included but will leave it to new owner to repair.
