Antique Penny Lick 1 Cent Ice Cream Container Glass Bubbles Black Plague
Hi! Please consider this great. Old and original"Penny Lick" ice cream server. Back in the day these glass serving"dishes" were sold for 1 cent by European street vendors. They have a false sort of bottom shown where my finger touches the bottom, giving the illusion of twice the amount of ice cream being served. The other interesting and historical part of this item was that the vendors were not washing the glasses between customers thus causing tremendous out breaks of disease and the transfer of germs. Much like the"spit on the sidewalk" bricks used in America. The glass is 2 1/4" tall x 2" across the top, while the actual depth of the ice cream holding part is only 1 1/4" deep. The glass 1 small flake from the bottom otherwise, has no chips, cracks or repairs and DOES have many tiny bubbles ... moreas is characteristic of glass of this time period. Handed down through my family is this Unique Porcelain Ice Cream/ Dessert Set. It belonged to a Great Aunt(born early 1890's) But exact age is unknown. After some research, it is possibly Old Paris, or maybe Limoges. Unusual and Unique subject matter with the cute frog scenes. The Platter measures 13" X 10 1/4" X 2" There are 8 Saucer Bowls that measure 4 7/8" I can't be sure if this is hand painted or transfer designs with hand-painted highlights. But coloring is good. RARE Tiffany& Co Sterling Silver LAP OVER EDGE Ice Cream Server measuring 12.5 inches long. Shells& Sea-Weed Pattern. Acid etched with wonderful naturalistic marine designs. Marked M Tiffany&Co Sterling PAT 1880. There is a period three letter monogram in fancy script on the reverse. The blade/bowl does have several very fine surface scratches. None of which can be felt by hand. On the heel of the bowl on the back. There is a 1/4 inch indentation that is deeper than a scratch. The marks are rather worn and there are also a couple of old inventory numbers. They are barely noticeable unless you are specifically looking for them. Overall in very nice condition with crisp detailing and pattern.
