In the late 19th century a duck hunter wandering around the marshes of Ballona Creek-where the current Marina Del Ray exists. South of Santa Monica-spotted strange. Circular objects immersed in the muck. He pried them out and stuffed many into his hunting bag. I acquired these incredible artifacts from his out-of-state descendants and have listed several over the past few years. This one. Sometimes called a DONUT STONE with a decidedly off-centered, not round center, was carved from a somewhat soft stone having remnants of rock-matrix streaks throughout. In relatively good shape with various nicks and abrasion marks streaks evident on the artifact. Minor flaking. Abrasions, hair-line groove along one side, dings. As mentioned earlier. They have 6 metal donut hole buttons in the front and two on the sleeve cuff. They have four pockets in front. Two upper pockets and two lower side slash pockets. They also have two back pockets.
