This plate was displayed in my Grandmother's dining room in Baltimore, MD back in the early 1950's. Her sister was a respected antique dealer and I'm guessing it came from her shop. I was told when i purchased this that the wood is Dalbergia cochinchinensis which is a form of rosewood. The tradition of making these small sized pieces of furniture dates back many years to when apprentice pieces were made before the full size piece of furniture was then carved. Description This is an unusually large and wonderful carved gilt wood oriental display cabinet. The top is open and there is one door. There are glass panels on each side. However 2 pieces of glass are missing. The door appears to be locked. The patina is lovely with correct wear. The cabinet is 59 inches tall from the carved dragon heads on each corner top to the bottom of each leg. Each side is 29 inches across. We have a carved statue inside that will not be included. The Ladies room key holder is MINT NOS and the Mens room holder is in good used condition. This pair of rest room key holders were made to hang on the two hooks provided at the bottom of the map holder.
