Wow. Here we have a Radiation Survey Meter Model SU-1 made by Tracerlab in Boston. Massachusetts. Based on my research, this was the first commercial version of a Tracerlab"Cutie Pie. An advertisement for this Tracerlab"Cutie Pie" first appeared in the 1948(p.68) issue of Nucleonics. The operating manual for this meter( which I do not have) apparently describes the meter as a"Portable Radiation Instrument. The meter is in very good shape. I popped the side cover off and took pictures of the inside. It appears that everything is there and in good order. The battery compartment inside is clean as well since someone must have emptied it before storage. If you look closely. You'll see Philips head machine screws holding the side covers in place. Has the two 44-99 shielded 3" x 1" Gamma scintillation detectors in the weather proof housings. I have shown it in working condition with some sources to show them working and the low alarm(set to 20) and the high alarm(set to 100) There is a small dimple in the plastic cover over the LED readout which has no effect on the unit. This retails for over $6000 new. It is in excellent condition. I am including 2 cables for the detectors. The original cables had been cut for some reason. MGP Instruments DMC 2000 Personal Radiation Detector Lot Quantity (4)
I just ordered some CR2450N coin cells to further test these. I was testing these with a bench power supply and three seem to work fine. However one will cycle the display by itself. I had six of these and my daughter sold them all about a year ago but the buyer claimed that these four did not power up. I just got around to looking at them and the problem is obvious- there is a plastic insulator that will block the cell connection if it is not rotated properly. They just have one button and a menu driven programming environment that I do not fully understand. Three are missing the clip.
