This is a 2.25 inch X 2.25 inch X 3 inch Scintillation Detector designed for GAMMA Radiation Detection. This probe has been newly manufactured in the iRad shop and lab. It is 10-3/4 inches in length and weighs 1 pound 9 ounces. The pictures are of the 2.25 cubed version which is now sold out. This version has a 3/4" longer crystal but is otherwise exactly the same. The Scintillator uses a Bicron/Saint-Gobain BC412 Polyvinyl Toluene& Organic Fluors(Plastic) Scintillation Crystal for Gamma Radiation Detection. The crystal is polished on all sides and coated with a specially formulated reflective coating before coupling to the PMT. The PMT is a socketed Photonis XP3692 Photomultiplier Tube with a 62 MegOhm socket assembly installed. After assembly the probe is encased in PVC and is quite durable. It has been tested from 1000v to 1400v and runs very well throughout that range of voltage with best sensitivity between 1200v and 1400v. I recommend this probe if you have a Meter with adjustable HV like a Ludlum Model 3 and most all other Ludlum meters. The probe comes with a 30 day Warranty and Satisfaction Guarantee. Background here at sea level for this particular probe was about 2000+ CPM at 1400v. Pictures show detection of Cs137 and Thorite Ore. The probe is shown operating on a Ludlum Model 18 at 1400V as calibrated on my Ludlum 500 Calibrator. The probe also ran perfect on my Ludlum Model 3. When used with the included probe, it provides very accurate alpha/beta/gamma/x-ray counts all the way up to its 500,000 counts per minute range. This instrument is specifically designed to be used with a wide variety of probes including proportional, scintillation, and neutron detectors. Included in this auction are the following: 1. Here is a mechanically and electronically flawless Bicron Surveyor 2000 Geiger counter. Two probes are being included! One is an thin end-window GM probe that is very sensitive to alpha and beta radiations. But reads gamma at a rate of approximately 2,400 CPM/mR/hour. This is being included because the counter has a scale that is meant to be used with probes which have that exact count/dose ratio to Cesium 137, AND takes the place of a pancake probe because it has a thin mica window and will pick up alpha and beta radiation through the front. The other is a fixed internal probe for measurement of gamma radiation levels up to an extremely high 2 Roentgens(which in this case, is equal to 2 REM) per hour, or an incredibly high 2,400,000 counts per minute; the second is specifically chosen to match with the meter scale. The NiCd batteries are old and are not guaranteed. One unit(with the red sticker) has a blown fuse on the low voltage power supply board. During testing. Wires were run from both pins of that fuse socket to an external, field expedient, temporary 2A quick blow fuse. HOT custom assembled Gamma ray scintillator probe with slid able collimator. Beryllium window, new USSR NAI(TI) crystal, and new Hamamatsu R6095 photomultiplier. Using the probe body from a Bicron G1 scintillator and the solid brass lens holder from Hamamatsu photomultiplier which has the same exact metric size and thread as the Bicron housing a Beryllium window replaced the lens and a bit of machining on a lathe made a perfect match and provided the extra length needed for the longer crystal. The crystal is a new USSR made NAI(TI) which is 18mm.708" in diameter and 40mm 1.575" in length. The window is Beryllium.06mm.002" thick and is transparent to Gamma rays which allows for detection down to about 8 KEV or slightly lower providing the response of a low energy probe as well as the usual response to a medium energy probe in ... morethe same detector. A new Hamamatsu R6095 high performance 1" 11 stage photomultiplier with BiAlkili cathode along with a MuMetal magnetic shield was installed. Also used was the original socket but restrung with all new resisters in a string that favors a low current circuit to match the requirement for portable and fixed counters as well as spectrum analyzes it has a total resistance of about 130 meg Ohms and center plateau at 800 Volts. Normal background radiation is about 2.500 C.P.M. with no collimator or pulled back from window and about 50% less with the collimator in place which makes the probe way more directional and reduces the grass/ noise giving it a higher sensitivity at farther distance to quickly pin point the source of interest. An 0 ring provides a latching effect to keep it in place when slid over the window end as seen in photos 3& 4. Photo 5 is an actual screen shot of the probe using a 1 uCi Cs 137 source with the signal tapped with one of my taps and fed through one of my preamplifier filters the resolution without the filter is about 4.5% FWHM which is simply amazing resolution for a small detector. Up for bids is a Bicron Micro Analyst radiation detection meter. This unit has a built-in scaler and SCA. The unit shows good on BATTERY CHECK. But doesn't display the HV. I haven't tried to measure the HV to see if any is being generated and the HV CHK circuit is bad.
