IFR 1000A Communications Service Monitor, RF Signal Generator
This is a used. Not functioning IFR service monitor. We have owned it for over 25 years and it always worked great, but about 3 months ago, it stopped working, blowing either the AC line fuse or the DC fuse, depending on which source you used. The oven light comes on until you turn on the power, then the fuse blows. I disconnected the internal battery, in case that might have failed, but it made no difference. I am retiring, and have another monitor, so I am not looking to repair this one. My loss could be your gain. It includes the front cover and both the AC and DC power cables. The battery is old and probably not serviceable. We used it on the bench and never used it. The unit is clean, considering it's age. The gaskets are dried out, but the face and case are not scuffed up.

In my younger days I actally built a Knight-Kit TV as well as an Amplifier and Receiver that I built for my Father. I did not build this one. Weighs 8 lbs, 10 ounces in the original box. This box measures 12 1/2 inches by 9 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches tall. PLEASE NOTE: there is a.05 MFD Capictor inside the box, looking at the parts list I see that this IS NOT part of the kit so no idea of why its there. The background history of this unit is that it was a regularly operated piece for volunteer fire fighters radio communications. See photo#6 to show that it powers ON and receives full signal. My girlfriends father had this unit in his home base office in rural Santa Cruz county. So there is some heavy dust. Surface rust on cabinet and then scratches from it being packed up and moved to Eureka, CA. It has been unplugged& stored away indoors for the past 4 years. Upon testing. TSG-17 100 KHz-150 MHz RF Signal Generator
I bought this generator from a seller on EBay who said it was practically new. I found the frequencies from 10 to 12 MHz. 37 to 40 MHz, and above 120MHz were dead. All the rest had beautiful sine waves. I found it had a lot of wasted space inside so l cut the chassis to about half it's size. I also installed a shielded transformer and a circuit breaker. I found the front switch only cut off the secondary of the transformer so I installed a switch in the back that cuts off all the power. When they sell new, you have to adjust the RF amplitude with a screwdriver so I installed a pot with a knob. The bands and good frequencies within those bands are as follows: Range. Frequencies that are Good. 100 KHz to 300 KHz All Good. 300 KHz to 1 MHz. All Good. 1 MHz to 3.2 MHz. A fully restored AF/RF generator thats in working conditon and can be put to use right out of the box. I purchased an original manual to complete this unit and installed BNC AF/RF connectors to bring it up to date. I replaced the 20/20mfd. filter capacitors which removed the audio hum from the unit and tested both outputs to insure proper operation there-after. The BNC test lead was all so purchased new and is included with this unit. There is a factory installed internal doubler which will extend the frequency to 1.1GHz. The output range is from +19 to-145 dBm(2V to 0.013 microvolts) and may be calibrated and metered. The output is leveled to + or– 0.5dB across the full frequency range. The 8640B provides AM. FM and pulse modulation for a wide range of applications. AM and FM can be performed independently or simultaneously in either the internal or external modes. Pulse modulation is via external modes only. Other significant features are extremely low noise. Built-in phase lock, ability to utilize the frequency counter for external signals(unit doubles as a frequency counter across its full range) and front panel controls for ease of operations. The phase lock feature is very nice in that the operator can set the frequency on the display. Push the phase lock button and the unit will lock on to the displayed frequency. The built in frequency counter has a 6-digit LED display and gives a normal resolution of 10 kHz at 500 MHz and 10 Hz at 500 kHz.
