The inside measures approx. 8 by 9 inches(edge to edge) The liner measures approx. 7 by 8 inches. There are no cracks or dents anywhere. Only some normal starches from use. The helmet will clean up nicely. I just dusted it off after it was found in the attic of an old coal miners estate. Antique Coal Mining, "MSA COMFO-CAP", Low Seam Miners Hard Hat, Nice
The markings on this Hard Hat by MSA are really good. It's the Comfo-Hat worn in the early 1900's in the coal mines, and still worn today by some miners. It has the original liner and cord snap on the back. It has a small hairline crack on the left side by the first hole, app 1/2" long. The inside colors on this hat are also great. It does not seem to have been in the mines for very long due to the wear. It measures 11 1/4" long and 7 7/8" wide. Good Luck Bidding.

Leather also has a metal re-enforcement on the backside. Shows some small chips and dings from use and interior liner is missing. This auction is for 2 carbide miner's lamps and a miner's soft cap. The Justrite lamp is marked: Justrite Made in the U.S.A. May 7. 1912, Oct 28, 1913, and Nov 23, 1915. Others pending. The top door opens and closes good. The dial moves freely. No reflector. Gasket intact. Folding wings that make a handle. The other carbide lamp is marked on the bottom: Universal Lamp Co. MSA SKULLGARD FULL BRIM HARD HAT LACE IN LINER L2 MINERS HAT
This is an MSA Skullgard Full Brim hard hat with a lace in liner that can be adjusted for different head sizes. The hat is in great shape with no cracks and the liner is still intact with no rips or tears but some small cracking in the head band. The sticker inside is worn away. Vintage MSA Comfo helmet with liner. The circumference of the liner is about 21" which should be a size 7 or so. From bill to back it measures about 10 1/2" Side to side measures about 7 1/4" No cracks. No hairlines. Plenty of scratches and there is an ID number scratched into the bill, still displays well. The front of the liner has pulled loose from the helmet due to the string being broken. I took pictures with a black and a white background because the helmet looks different depnding on what color background. I would say that the white background is the most accurate depcition. Offered is a very cool. Antique hard hat. Also called skull hat. I cannot find another one like it. It was in a old house being torn down. The company is Pulmosan from Brooklyn NY. They make all industrial supplies. The graphics are still on the front outside of the hat. The hat has surface scratches. On top is stamped USA. Inside is a type of cloth that is dry and stiff. My grandpa was a coal miner here in western PA. So this piece interests me! It is a soft coal miner's cap Hat with a UNIVERSAL LAMP CO. carbide AUTO-LIGHT, Made in USA. Visor is leather and the piece the carbide lamp is attached to is also leather. I cannot find a size on the cap. In good condition. There is a repaired spot on the top seam where someone stitched it. See photos) My grandpa was 83 when he died of Black Lung. He worked at many small mines in the area. Opening them up to get them started. I am proud to be a Coal Miner's granddaughter. VERY SCARCE* OLD ANTIQUE VTG Ca 1920's DEADSTOCK MINERS CANVAS SOFT HAT HELMET FOR CAP LAMP This offering is for an old vintage Deadstock Miners Canvas Soft Hat. The hat has a tin front piece to attach a miners cap lamp to that retains the original spring loaded clip in unused condition. The hat is made of canvas and the size is small. About 21½" in inside circumference which equals a hat size of app. 6 3/4 to 6 7/8. There is a very good chance the cap was made to fit of of the young boys that worked in the mines during the early 20th century and as such is notable for that alone. The inside is lined in striped cotton flannel. There is a part of the original makers tag still attached but the part wit the makers name is missing. The hat appears to be unused new old stock condition with only minor shelf wear and soiling. The interior ... moreis very clean with no sign the cap was ever worn. The only real flaw is the the screws have rusted that hold the front piece on. In short, the overall condition is outstanding as seen in our photo's both above and below. VERY RARE* OLD ANTIQUE VTG Ca 1920's UNION MELT OSC BARON COAL MINERS STRIKE HARD HAT HELMET This offering is for an old vintage Miners Hard Hat or Helmet that would have been worn by striking miners in the 1910's to 1920's era. The helmet has an orange colored painted ground with dark read lettering that reads"UNION MELT OSC" across the front and"BARON" on either side. I'm not sure what exactly what the OSC lettering is referencing but I'm sure the BARON wording is referring to the Coal Barons of the era. Those of you who are well versed in the history of the early 20th century miners strikes will likely have a better understanding of the wording than I do. That it involves the unions there is little doubt. The inside has the original leather sweat band and suspension lining still in place. The central ... morecircular tie cord is a replacement. The helmet and it interior are in used but very nice condition as seen in our photo's both above and below. There is some scattered overall wear to the painted surfaces of the helmet shell but nothing severe. The sweatband has also some wear plitting but is still very solid. There are no chips. Cracks breaks or repairs and the helmet displays beautifully.
