Up for auction. Is a vintage Department of Agriculture Forest Service Suede Leather Apron. It has the Forest Service Logo stamped on the front. The lettering on the Forest Service wording is partially missing. But you can see part of it. The wording for the Department of Agriculture is complete. I am not sure as to the use of this apron. Possibly tree trimming, blacksmith work or welding. It seems to be a scarce item. As I have not been able to find any information about it. It measures 30" long. And 20" wide. Beautifully beaded authentic Native American traditional leather apron. I've just been told it's a hider apron used with a round bustle or Chicken Dance outfit and is a modern version of the breech cloth. Purchased by my parents for sale in their Native American gallery in downtown Seattle in 1972 and in storage since it closed in 1980. This is in fair condition with a musty odor from many years of storage and has extensive moth damage to the fabric streamers and some damage to the tassels. The leather has marks and has been"roughed" up(lots of wear) but the beadwork is in good condition with no missing beads.It has a buckle for fastening and has two rectangular sections of deer skin approximately 11" across by 14" tall with a connecting section that measures 1" tall by 4-1/2" wide(all one piece) One ... moreside with the orange beaded flower has black tassels and the other side with the green four petal flower has red tassels and two sets of colorful fabric streamers that have heavy moth damage. I've tried to vacuum and brush clean all moth damaged areas and remove any of their leavings. Being sold as is. Probably best as a display item rather than as a wearable as the fabric parts are probably very brittle. Sale to U.S. and Canada only, it weighs 11-ozs.

This one was collected in Uganda and could be works of the Karamajong people, an ethnic group of pastorals. It was sent to me by an art professor in Uganda. Like their neighbors the Turkana and the Maasai, cattle are their primary wealth. They are very famous for their body ornaments, jewelry, leatherwork and beadwork. The vital role of the materials such as the leather and beads is obvious in Karamajong culture and ornaments. The leather is a material found locally. Beads are imported. This beaded leather apron was probably worn in front of the body by unmarried girls. Such aprons were greatly appreciable for their protective power and are said to ensure fertility and to possess medicinal proprieties. In other words. These materials can heal. When applied on this women Apron, the beads purpose was not only to embellish the apron, but also to protect the wearer and guarantee their motherhood status. This leather apron made by Toye Co. Ltd. I believe was made in the 1940s or 1950s. The hook for the belt is a snake. It is very well made with heavy embroidery. It measures approximately 16" x 1/4" x 3" not including the belt. The belt measures approximately 33 1/2" Please note there are some stains on the apron and a faint basement smell. You are bidding on a used leather bib work apron made by Rawhide Frontier(made in China according to the label) There is no size in it but the canvas straps are adjustable. This could be used for leather working. Woodworking, most anything. It is well use, dirty, worn, stained but still very much usable.
