1850 W J Mcelroy Confederate Foot Officer Sword Saber
I bougt this as an original W. J. Mcelroy Macon Georgia 1850 Foot Officer sword. I can not verify it is authentic but it is an absolute beauty and properlymaked and beautifully engraved. The blade is 30 inches and is engraved almost the entire length of it on both sides with CSA in the middle. The guard looks to be cast with CS in it too. They went to a lot of trouble to make it look real if it it is a fake. The grip is good shape with 100% of its twisted wire and leather. The pommel is properly peened and the guard is impecable. McElroy Civil War Confederate Fighting Knife, Swords, Sabers
For you bidding pleasure is this W. J. McElroy Macon Ga. 8" Bowie Confederate Civil War knife that is shown. I have included photo's of page 134 of Aubaugh's book on Confederate Sword Makers. This is a lower quality knife made by McElroy during the war and is identical to the one shown in the photo. Except for the finals on the edge of the guard, which in this simpler version, McElroy forego'ed the finals, made the guard flat from the same collar style, and bent the guard down instead of back. I would suspect that this was not only simpler to cast, but saved a little material as brass along with everything else in the South was getting scarce as the war wore on, except for the iron that Billy Sherman made abundant. The knife is not stamped with the traditional McElroy stamp found on his swords, but is etched exactly as Aubaugh ... morespecifies in his description of this knife, to wit: Also another bowie knife with 8 inch single edged blade, plain wooden grips, brass guard and upper end cap. Etched, W. J. McElroy, Macon, Ga. on ricasso. Being etched, time, use, and corrosion has obscured the maker mark, and only the ELROY and CON GA are all that are visible. One of the interesting things about the knife is its wear pattern on the wood handle. There are three wear spots where the former owner held the knife marking the point of the finger tips holding the knife. Whoever they were, they were right handed and had a small hand, as you can see from the pictures my hand wraps past these wear points. They also had either lost their third finger, or they let it squeeze out the top of their hand as they gripped the knife, as the third point of contact was clearly used by the little finger for control. What is strange is that the knife has never been sharpened, but the handle indicates that it was often used. I would suspect then, that the owner was a woman, which explains the small hand and was quite possibly used in the kitchen, where demands upon the blade were minimal. Rare 1930s McElroy"StreamKey" Model 200 w/ Original Box! Model 200: Metal Base w/ Original Black Wrinkle Finish-Nickel Plated Knurled Hardware-Bakelite Knobs This key is in exceptional condition for its age. And even includes the very rare original packaging. It is an early model McElroy StreamKey 200(signified by the knurled hardware) which was made in Boston, Massachusetts in the mid to late 1930s. The nickel plated hardware is in excellent condition, as seen in pictures, with no chipping, bubbling or flaking. The metal base has all of the original black wrinkle finish, as seen in pictures, which is a little dusty making it seem brownish- I lightly sponged the edge with some warm soapy water and it came back to bright black, but not being an expert I am hesitant to disassemble the unit and do the area under the hardware; I will ... moreleave that to the buyer. The bakelite knobs are in good condition, as seen in pictures, with some wear but no large chips as often seen in these models. There are two mounting holes, by which the unit can be bolted or screwed to a flat surface, but they have never been used. On the whole, this key is in excellent functional condition. Do not confuse this key with similar-looking simpler and cheaper McElroy keys made from plastic. Or not featuring circuit closers! This was and is a top-notch piece- I am the second owner, after my grandfather who purchased it new. It was very lightly used and has done nothing but sit displayed on a shelf for years- this should fill a big hole in someones collection.

Allow me to preface this description with; MY KNOWLEDGE ON THESE ITEMS IS VERY LIMITED. I will do my best to describe and acknowledge any damage or defects that are apparent. Also. If you have any questions, or something is wrong with my info/ listing please feel free to contact me and enlighten me. just don't be too mean) I have researched and found that this is a vintage telegraph key from the late 30's. I am told by a friend and by my own research that this is a top of the line telegraph key and very rare(especially in such good condition) The nameplate reads as follows, Radio telegraph transmitting key. Deluxe model mac key) Mfd. by, Theodore R. Mcelroy, Wold's champion radio telegrapher, Boston, Mass, U.S.A. Speed key serial no. 2158" I believe this particular model to be either a 1939 A or B. It has a gorgeous marblelite ... morefinish that is in stunning condition. Other than some dust and dirt in some of the hard to reach spots this telegraph key is just about perfect! The"key" part seems to still be fully functional, and with my limited knowledge I would say there is no reason that this piece would not work 100% I've made no attempt to take the item apart, and only cleaned it with a DRY rag to be absolutely safe. I'm sure someone who knows what they are doing could clean it up even nicer, I just prefer not to take risks. Don't let this one go, you may never get a chance to own one in this good of shape. Very rarely does this model even come up sale, let alone such a fine example of one.
