Antique Cast Iron Door/Barn Latch Spring Loaded w/Pull
Neat Find! Antique Cast Iron Door Latch/ Barn Pull. Spring Loaded. In very good working condition. The"box" measures approximately 6 1/4" long, 2" wide and 3/4" tall. The latch assembly measures approximately 7 1/4" long. This ornate latch has an art deco feel to it. The pull measures out at around a whopping 47 1/2" long. The chain looks to be brass. There is a ring on the end that measures approximately 1 1/4' in diameter. The spring is nice and stiff and in good working order. Antique Spring Loaded Ejector Brass Candlestick circa 1800's HEAVY. Circa Mid 19th Century Heavy Brass Spring Loaded Candlestick At a time when house fires were frequently caused by oil lamps being knocked over and candles becoming dislodged. A simple and efficient mechanism to keep a candle in a fixed position and the flame at a constant height was developed at the beginning of the nineteenth century. This new design of candle fitting where the candle was not exposed to view, it being contained within the stick, used a spring mechanism by which the upward pressure of a coiled spring pressed the candle against a partially enclosed top opening. This heavy candlestick is fitted with lead at the base, a stout stem and industrial looking design. The cap or top of the piece is to be twisted to line up with the post and then removed. I Picked this up in a box of tackle I got from the worlds largest garage sale in Warrensburg NY several years ago. This is a brass spoon with two mouse trap like springs attached to it. Not sure exactly how old this is or who made it but it is extremely interesting! The Springs seem to still work even with the surface rust you see. The two teethed jaws are pulled back and set by a pin that is released when the fish pulls on the treble hook. It took quite a tug to set off the trigger but it worked. Mid century adjustable vents. Since they have a chain on them I asume they are for a wall or ceiling. But I realize that you could use them on the floor if they were always open or you took off the chain pull end. They are spring loaded with good spring strength. Flaps open up all the way to a 90 degree position. Nice deco gold color. One of the flaps inside looks dirty but is is paint loss. Measures 13 1/4" by 7 1/2" outside and fits 6" by 12" hole.

Very old and extremely heavy compared to other old fashioned faucet's. There are 3 of them included in this auction. My guess they probably were in a public. Theater? school? 1920's? The way they spring back to the off position would tell me they did not want people letting the water run. I tested them and are functioning. Because of age they are sold as is. I recently acquired several large boxes of vintage hardware from a Simmons Hardware in McComb Ohio. Alot of these items are in marked boxes and have hand writing on them from the old school fountain pens or even quill pens.not real sure. These items were never used and some of them have patent dates from the 1800's. Many pieces are not marked on the item itself at all. I have an old heavy duty door latch for your consideration. Multiple opportunities such as cellar barn gate or entrance door latch lock. Spring feels strong for reuse. Some minor surface rust and old paint that would clean off for a new finish if you wish. Nice shabby vintage look as is. This come to you with a flush jamb strikeplate. Come to you with original chain although I think there was circular ring at some point that was lost which could be replaced with some thing of your liking for easier pull for door release.
