The upper case letter"W" 8 line, block is approximately 1 5/16" tall and 1 1/8" wide. Manufacturer: Hamilton(looks like one of the French Clarendon fonts) Type is all wood. We have washed with mild soap and water to remove the worst of the dust/soil. Our lighting may distort the color of the wood. There is dried ink etc. on some letters. VINTAGE WOOD ENCLOSED VOLT/OHM METER WITH A WESTON METER MODEL 506 TYPE S-38 J1 click picture to enlarge This auction is for a vintage Volt/Ohm Meter completely encased in wood except for the bottom which looks like it could be made of phenolic or some other similar type material and the solid brass fascia enclosing the meter face. There is an ON/OFF switch on the top as well as terminals for the leads. There is a vertical crack in the glass approximately in the center of the scale plus a smaller crack from approximately from the 6 o'clock position to the 4 o'clock position. The meter wood enclosure measures approximately 6-1/4" tall X 3-3/8" wide(without probe holders) 4-3/4" wide(with probe holders) X 1-3/4" thick. The two leads are about 36" long each. The little white specks that you see in the pictures ... moreare white paint. It looks like the meter was near a place a paint roller had been used. They should come off fairly easily. A very good WW2 Japanese'Economy Production' Model 1897 Type 30 Arisaka bayonet with string bound wood scabbard. Showing 80% original dark olive/brown paint, manufactured at MATSUSHITA factory between late 1944& 1945. The Arisaka Type 30 rifle entered service with Japan Imperial Forces in 1897, together with the Type 30 bayonet, both served the Imperial Japanese Forces for decades until August 1945. The original Type 30 bayonet was very well made, with a bright fullered blade& a heavily blued hilt and hooked quillion. As the war progressed. And Japan has no natural resources, all war materiel, including oil, steel, minerals were imported by shipping. The United States fleet submarines wrecked havoc with Japanese shipping, thus depriving Japan of essential war materiel. Cost cutting& economising measures were duly introduced ... morein 1944. The hooked quillion and quality finish on bayonets vanished, and blades were partially finished without fullers. The original contoured hilt was replaced with the square pommel with slab sided wood grips, riveted, not screwed as previously. This is one of them. 390mm. 100% blued blade. Flat, no fullers, half factory sharpened only. Ricasso stamped with the symbol Arrow' M' indicating MATSUSHITA manufacture. Excellent. 100% blued muz ring/straight crossguard. VG++. Original slab wood grips. Retained with two steel rivets. Japanese characters in white on tang. VG++. 99% blued'birds beak' pommel. Set of letterpress wood type characters Wonderful tiny very old wooden printing characters. We think. That these letters have been made around 1900. We have counted 509 pieces. We hope, that we did not make any mistake on counting, but you will see, what you get on the close-up photos below. Each character measures 26 mm: 1.02 inch and 30 mm- 1.18 inch for those with descenders. We have removed some dust. But did no full cleaning. The characters were stored up to now in drawers, this is a gorgeous and exceptionnel tiny set of characters. Antique set of letterpress wood type characters Wonderful very old wooden printing characters. We think. That these letters have been made around 1900 or even before. We have counted 56 pieces. The box came from France and should date from around 1920/1930. An exceptionnel opportunity for a collector to acquire an outstanding and very rare set of wooden characters. Rare Heber Wells Wood Type Font Darius Wells Vanderburgh Vandercook Press
This is a rare 10 pica font of wood type by Heber Wells of New York made between 1890 and 1898. This font is in excellent condition for its age. And a nice usable size. It is a rather interesting pseudo-Asian style which was also produced by William Page and is shown in their 1888 catalog as No. 156. To quote printing historian Steve Saxe. Heber Wells was the youngest son of Darius Wells, the founder of the wood type industry in the US. In 1864 he bought the stock of Ebenezer Webb, in partnership with Alexander Vanderburgh and Henry Low. For many years the company operated as Vanderburgh, Wells& Co. and they sold type cases, wood type, etc etc. from their location at Dutch St. off Fulton, and near the South Street Seaport museum today. Letterpress printer's type cabinet measures appx 25 inches wide by 24 inches deep 44" tall. Flat Top. It has 25 partitioned drawers. Plenty of room for type or organizing scrapbook materials. Screws, collectibles etc. The drawers pull out completely so you can carry them to where you are working. It is a medium oak color.The cabinet is primarily oak. I don't know what type of wood the back and drawer partitions are made of. Hamilton cast drawer pulls in really good condition. You can see from the photos that there is wear. Various nicks and marks on the cabinet but overall it is in good condition and I think it's really quite clean when compared with similar cases. Teutonic Wood Type Font 19th Century Rare Vanderburgh & Wells Letterpress
This is a complete font of an uncommon gothic Tuscan style of wood type from the late 1800s. It is shown in the Vanderburgh. Wells& Co. catalog of 1877 as Teutonic and I believe this font was produced by them, or by Heber Wells(son of Darius Wells) after he bought out the partnership.
