Rosback Perfect Book Binder
This is the standard binder most often used to make soft cover books in commercial book manufacturing. It will bind books from 4" x 2-1/2" to 15-1/2" x 12" And from 1/8" to 2" thick. It requires a floor space of around 6 feet by seven feet, plus room for material. A venting system is required. I use a shop vacuum cleaner. Power is 220 volt, 3 phase, but a 110 volt single phase adapter is included. I cannot find a maximum speed specification. But my impression it that it would bind close to sixty books a minute, if you could load it fast enough. This would require two workers. But I can bind ten to twenty books a minute, working alone. Loading consists placing a cover face down against three locator stops at one end of the machine and placing a block of loose pages against a locator stop in an open clamp at the ... moreother end. Then you push the start button and the clamp tightens on the pages, runs them over a saw to make them even and roughen the bottom edge, then through a hot melt glue applicator, stopping above the cover. Then the machine pushes the cover up againse the hot glue and wraps it around the book, clamping it tight to get a square corner. Finally, the machine moves the finished book to a discharge chute and drops it. I have refurbished this machine to usable(not perfect) condition. And have used it to publish 5-1/2" by 8-1/5" books of various thicknesses. A book bound on this machine was recently awarded first place in its category in a Christian Writer's Awards contest. Setting up the machine to bind a particular book requires adjusting the clamps at each end for the book thickness and adjusting the stops to correctly locate the block of loose pages and the cover. Then the heights for the various parts must be correctly set. An instruction manual. Which includes detailed instructions for setup and maintenance, plus electrical diagrams and a full parts list is included. Standard Bindfast 5 perfect binder, tabletop, with book cover nipper attachment
You are bidding on a used Standard Bindfast 5 tabletop perfect binder. This machine is in very good condition. It came from an in plant shop so did not get very heavy use. It comes with the book cover nipper which allows one to bind a book and glue and wrap the cover to the book in one pass. All it then needs is a little trimming on three sides and you then have a finished book. It also comes with 5 inserts that go over the heat plate which would allow one to make up to 6 pads at one time. Also included are two removable supports(also go above the heat plate) to support larger sheets(books) so they do not fall over while you bind them. The nipper. Inserts and supports can all be removed in seconds to allow for whatever kind of binding(padding) you need to do at the time. The book says you can pad up to 1,000 1/4" thick pads per hour ... moreand up to 150 books per hour but I don't see any way that one person could get this much work out of one of these. It will pad up to a 17 inch long sheet(pad) It only requires one 115 volt standard power outlet. Warms up in approx. 12 minutes. It comes with about 24 lbs. of adhesive which would be enough to do a bunch of books or pads. It works great but I am selling it as is with no returns. I am offering free freight to the continental USA if you are a commercial location with a forklift or a dock. Actually, if you are a commercial location and have two people who could lift 150 lbs. off a truck we could make that work also. If you are not a commercial location I would need to charge you $50 to $100 for freight depending on the carrier. I will accept PayPal, check or bank to bank wire transfer for this item.
