It has 2 keys that work and it prints but looks like it needs ink; I really don't know anything about these machines but this one has 2 new batteries in the bottom but I have no idea what they are for. I have been able to confirm the existence of only two other such machines so this clearly falls in the"rare" category. Antique 1800's Bronze/Brass Figural Bison Stamp Seal Embosser
This amazing embosser/ seal was once owned by a Marshall of Philadelphia. He retired in 1920. This piece is seems to have had a lever/handle on top of the bison head( see photo) The piece measures approximately 4 inches in length. 3 inches in height, 2 inches in width. The seal opens 3/4" It may have sat on top of a base, see the photo where there is a different metal filling a hole underneath piece.It appears to be a bronze or brass bison.The piece is solid. and quite heavy. The hinge lifts easily. Original Patina, slight corrosion on the inside of the seal only( see photo) I do not know any other history of the piece. It is an eye catcher and would be a great sculpture to add to a collection or adorn a desk. Very rare

Scarce "Challenge" Brand Check Protector/Embosser/Writer, Early 1900's
Here is another offering from my personal collection that I am liquidating. This scarce check protector is an ink/embossing type which has a single ink roller pushing against the type head. An interesting feature of this device versus other dial type embossers is that the celluloid dial has two rows of numbers where most only have a single row. The large hand on the dial indicates numbers on the outside row. The small hand reflects the amounts on the inside row. The finish is in really good shape with copper colored highlights seen on machines in the very early part of the 1900's. Plugged the unit on high for a few minutes and set unit to medium and used a section of scrap foil in the drawer to imprint on a piece of paper.see last picture where I embossed the words EBAY three times. This unit comes with the machine. Scrap used foils pieces in the drawer and the manual. The manual is full of embossed test prints but does not deter from reading the instructions. The machine cord is slightly stiff and somewhere half way of the cord the insulation cracked.so it is being held with electrical tape. Overall the machine has been sitting for several years in a shop so it is dusty. Few of the steel parts are showing slight signs of rust. Really Cool Vintage Safe Guard Speed Model B Check Writer/Protector/Embosser
This is one of several check protectors from my personal collection that I currently have listed on eBay. It's a model B"Speed" embosser which has denominations from 1 to 90 going up by hundreds and thousands. The test I ran shows the characters and names function perfectly but for the dry ink pad. It has an adjustable depth gauge and the paper advances automatically after the handle is depressed. The machine was made by the Safe-Guard Check Writer Corporation of Lansdale. PA. The serial number is 552887. It measures 9 1/2" wide. 8 1/2" deep, and 9" tall. The finish is very good with only minor flaking of the paint and only light tarnish to the nickel plated surfaces.
