Bought this many years ago at a flea market because I liked the design. It has a circus theme with a band and drum major. Of interest is the"circus theme" depicts an elephant and a donkey pulling the band wagon! This is an advertisement for Robertson Factories. Inc. Apparently,They had 9 factory locations including-Taunton(Mass) Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, St. Paul, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, Ore. This is an enormous GEM guillotine paper cutter by the Challenge Machinery Co. The blades measure 36" No cracks or welds as far as I can see. This was used in a small newspaper in Dallas City. IL. Antique Sigwalt Letterpress / Printing Press - Marked 10-I *Very Good Condition
Antique Sigwalt Letterpress/ Printing Press- Marked 10-I*Very Good Condition: Up for auction is a fantastic. Heavy cast iron Letterpress which I have discovered recently while out on one of my'picking adventures' Before I begin with the description, picture number 12 shows(2) antique letterpress models which I discovered this past week. Please note that this auction is for the larger press(red handle/ lever) only however the smaller model will also be listed for auction this week so please check out my other listings if you are interested. This press is quite heavy given its smaller size. Weighing right at 13 pounds, and it is in very good condition. When I discovered this press it was quite dusty so I've taken the time to clean up the item but I have not added, removed or replaced any of the parts. The press appears to be complete ... moreand it is fully functional. When I raise the lever, the single roller rolls off of the ink plate and over the chase very smoothly as the ink table is rotated simultaneously by the operating dog. When I lower the lever, the roller rolls back over the the chase and back then back on top of the ink plate with ease. The chase is removable and it fits very snug in the bed. The outside dimensions of the chase are 4" x 2 1/2" and the wooden block which was found with this item measures(slightly under) 3 1/2" x 2" The cast iron body and attached parts are in excellent condition. The cast iron shows no signs of any rust. Deterioration or other damage to it and the paint on this press is in very good condition as well(a couple of small chips but no flaking, peeling or cracking) There are a couple of screws that have light surface rust but this rust is light and it would easily clean away and the single roller has dried out over time and this will need to be replaced. This is a Ostrander Seymour. Heavy Duty, 2 Washington Style, Hand Printer's Proof Press. The platen size is 20 1/4 x 26 1/2. The last picture. 12 out of 12 shows 2 presses. The smaller, unidentified press is NOT part of this sale or listing. It is only there for a size reference. It is approx. the same vintage as the larger Ostrander Seymour press, so it is a fair comparison. Both of these presses were made in the 20th century. This press was one of the last of it's kind. Built by any manufacturer. When they Cast into the top of the Press. HEAVY DUTY" they meant it! It has Unbelievably Massive Webbing on Both the Platen and the Bed. By doing some Research. I have found that this press was manufactured some where in the area of 1920 to 1923. or thereabouts. The#2 model weighs in at 2,200 Lbs. and is 78" Tall. When this press ... morewas built it was at the pinnacle of this style of design. This press has the Very Rare. Optional Auxiliary Yoke, to stabilize the Vertical Movement when put on Impression. This will Ensure that Slurs and Unwanted Sideways Movement is either Eliminated or kept to an absolute Minimum. The Impression Arm with the Large Wood Handle is Much Longer than the older models to Provide for More Leverage with less Effort for the Pressman. If you are Printing Large. Short Run, Heavy Image Area Jobs, This is the Press for You. It will be Impossible to find a More Substantial Washington Hand Press. This is a Wesel Mfg. Co. N.Y. Washington Style, Hand Printer's Proof Press. This press would be a beautiful addition to a small studio print shop. The Wesel Co. was in business from 1900- 1923. The platen size is 13 3/4 x 18. By doing some Research. I have found that this press was manufactured some where in the area of 1905 or thereabouts. It weighs in at approx. 900 Lbs. And is 63" Tall. The factory scribed two lines that find the dead center of the bed. For layout purposes. I have checked the bed and it has a slight low spot in the center area of.001 to.002. Which if OK, and normal. This press has an old paint job using a very good quality of primer and paint that could have been done 30 year's ago or so. All I did is wipe it down with a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and new engine oil. I have not disassembled and/ or reassembled ... morethis press. Other than the figure 4 toggle mechanism and the platen adjustment. I did however paint on the gold leaf lettering and the large nuts on the top of the press. I have left the beautiful patina on the figure 4 toggle mechanism and also on the inner brass ring on the large wood handle. The outer rounded nut on the end of the handle was cleaned and then clear coated by some previous owner. I have also left the layers of ink that has built up over the years on the wood handle. I feel if the buyer want's to emery cloth. Sand and polish these in the future that is their option. T here is no Tympan or Frisket with this press. In my Opinion This is a Samuel Rust. N.Y. Printing Press. This would be the 1st True Washington Press. Made by it's Inventor, Samuel Rust, Approximately 180 Years Ago. THIS PRESS IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY. The Platen Size is 23" x 36 1/4" This Press Was Built for Newspaper Printing. Cast into the Top of the Press is a Stylized Eagle. It's Very Hard to Make Out in my Pictures. Below the Eagle is a Wreath with What Look Like Berries. Surrounding Where the Brass Name Plate Once Was. On Each side are Floral Medallions. Also Note the Cross Hatched Diamond Pattern all Around the Press. All of these Characteristics are typical of a Rust press. Unfortunately the Brass Nameplate has been Pried Out& Removed. Up on Ebay we have a V intage Cast Iron Mini Printing Press in its Original Paint. There are some paint chips on this M ini S ize C ast I ron P ress. Please check photos for condition. Most likely used for printing business cards. All moving parts work freely, nothing broken. Does not have any printing blocks or ink pad. It is still a Fantastic Collectable. Antique Monarch Junior Printing Press Retail Store Price Tag Marking System
This is a pretty cool device. It spins and turns. Arm goes up and down, the holer moves back and forth. For the life of me I can't really figure it out. I think there may be a piece missing that holds the stamps. There are many stamps in the draw underneath. They are not organized and my eyes are not that good to do so, I doubt it has all of them but it still adds to the cool factor. I did ID a few that are fractions. The rust seems mostly surface oxidation. Not real rot. The wood is solid is nicely aged with some stains here and there. I always get questions and compliments on this. I don't think there has been a person that has come though my home without giving this a turn.

The press is in a fantastic, unrestored, working condition, but it does need new rollers. I am including a box of antique type and leading in this auction to get you started. Length 15" height 9-1/2, width 6-1/2; chase 3-3/4x2-1/2. Please note that even though it's a small press, it is quite heavy and weighs 22 lbs as it's made of cast iron. John Sigwalt(1836-1924) started his working life in the sewing machine business. Then became a dealer in ticket stamps and seals.
