McMurdo Silver Masterpiece II. Masterpiece II was a four-band. Twelve-tube receiver covering the range from 13 to 570 meters. It had one r.f. stage using a 58 tube, a mixer-oscillator using a 2A7, three i.f. stages using 58's, three 56's used as a diode detector, AVC rectifier, and first audio, a 58 beat oscillator for C.W. reception, two 2A3's audio output, and a 5Z3 rectifier. The circuit was more or less conventional for the time but with a few interesting features. It had two tuning dials; one for the three-gang variable condenser which tuned the RF. Mixer, and oscillator coils. The second dial controlled a smaller condenser which tuned the oscillator only and was connected in parallel with the oscillator section of the main tuning condenser. This was called the band-spread dial, making short-wave reception easier to tune. ... moreThe RF and mixer coils did not have small capacitors to allow adjustment. The idea was that the tuning of these was so broad that there was no need to fine-tune them. The set used a separate 56 tube(used as a diode) for AVC. I found the choke was missing and the power transformer had shorted turns in the primary. I fixed those problems and replaced the output transformer with one that gives a match to a modern speaker. This now gives over 1.5 watts of real RMS audio with no visible distortion, with the 210 running at 350 volts on the plate and 29 volts of self-bias across a 2000 ohm cathode resistor. Available for your consideration this Micronta 12V DC power supply. This power supply converts 120/110 V AC current to 12V DC current. This is a vintage power supply sold by RadioShack in the early 80's. I found it in a storage bin. I plugged it in and put it on the voltage meter and it is putting out what it should. About 13.5 V DC. The label says 13.8 but my meter is analog so there is some wiggle room on the needle. Other than some expected dings from its age. The only thing I see wrong with it is the crack in the plastic on/off switch cover. The switch cover is removable and could be epoxied or the switch itself is just fine. I think the switch cover was more for appearance than function. ICom IC-PS15 20A Power Supply This is a nice ICom IC-PS15 Ham Radio power supply. It's in good overall condition with only minor marks and scuffs from previous use. Powers up fine and works great! It puts out 20A and is designed to be used with a variety of ICom radios. But will work with any radio that has the standard 6-pin molex power connector if you jumper the power on wires at the connector. This model of power supply has no built-in on/off switch and is designed to be switched by the radio it is connected to via two wires in the power connector. Many ICom radios will handle turning the power on and off by themselves with no modification. However. If you want to use it with a radio that does not support the switching feature, then you will need to jumper the pins on the power connector as shown in the photo to power the supply on ... moremanually. It is the small white jumper wire shown in the second photo. I recommend jumpering from the rear of the connector so it can be plugged in without hinderance. The white jumper wire was just something I grabbed from my junk box and stuck in there so that I could power up the power supply for testing.
