Lambda 71 high voltage power supply. All voltages tested good, DC volt meter is accurate, DC milliamperes meter is good but was not tested for accuracy, two tubes were replaced to bring this in to operating condition. The main voltage potentiometer operates smooth, the BIAS potentiometer will need replaced, the bias voltage jumps from low to high voltage and the pot appears to have a shorted winding, the pot is marked 20K ohm and is wire wound and possibly 7 watts, I do not have a schematic to verify, I have a good used 25K potentiometer that may work with some minor modification to the layout behind the front panel- no guarantee, the diameter and width of my 25K pot are a bit larger than the original, if the buyer wants it I will include it for free- just ask after purchase. Inside is a bit dusty/dirty- nothing real bad, the front panel ... morelooks good and all controls function except for the aforementioned BIAS pot, the metal cover shows some minor surface rust but no damage, the handle shows wear, this weighs just under 48 pounds and measures 15" by 9" by 13" tall before packaging. This is a used item that I purchased two years ago off of eBay as well. My bands has used it for 4 tours on the road so the wood panelling have some signs of wear. But it did when I purchased the item. All functions are in proper working order, had to put some money into to fix the chorus phase mode on the percussive preset, because of this the button had to be removed(in picture) but the percussive chorus phase is still fully functional and the button could easily be replaced, or the function can be triggered using something as easy as a key. We installed a full 3-prong AC adapter on the Lambda as we were initially having issues with the original two-prong power cable, it runs and sounds a whole lot better with the 3-prong. ∎ Vintage Stax SR-Lambda electrostatic earspeakers / headphones (Normal Bias)
Up for auction I have a pair of Stax Lambda earspeakers. This model is their original(Normal Bias' model and remains to this day a huge hit with Stax fans. Vintage or new. Stax earspeakers are extraordinary pieces of audio engineering. They're ultimate fidelity transducers, often excruciatingly so because they can rip poor recordings to shreds and render them unlistenable(for this reason I recommend having a pair of regular dynamic cans alongside your Stax) But the speed, detail, texture and sense of space in their music delivery is just ridiculous. You might've heard Stax fans around the world claiming how transcendent music listening can be with these things on your head; it's for good reason. Personally, for most classical recordings, Stax are my first choice. They're also a handy analytical tool for evaluating upstream ... morecomponents. You can basically listen through the music. And differences between components become definitively clear. This pair is in working order with both channels working normally. Cosmetically they're pretty good for their age with no cracks in the frame or ear pads. With the only significant blemish being a little spot on the plastic headband. Even the backwave foams are intact(usually they're crumbling in vintage Lambdas) A previous owner has replaced the original suede headband with black leather, but he actually did a decent job; the leather looks good to my eyes and it's a lot tougher than the original suede. For those new to Stax: these need a Stax amp or transformer to run them. One with a 6-pin'Normal Bias' socket. I actually have a spare SRD-7 lying around so let me know if you're interested in that.
