Adcom GFA-555 Modified Regulated Semi-Dual Power Supply Stereo Amplifier Amp
You are bidding on a modified Adcom GFA-555 stereo amp that was all original factory wired when it came to me in perfect operating condition. The following upgrades have been done to the amp. The power supply has been completely modified to be FULLY REGULATED! This power supply will swing 20A of output current per channel. This is all done by 2 separate built up solid state PS regulator boards that fit inside of the original case which HAS NOT been modified in any way so it still looks like a normal Adcom GFA-555 stereo amplifier. This was a common mod for these amps back in the day when they were new and it really brings the amp to a new dimension in its sound. The mod came out originally in the April 1989 Audio Amateur magazine a copy of which I will include in the auction. I did the mod myself on PCB boards about 4 months ago and the amp ... morehas about 60 to 80 hours of solid listening on it now since the build. It is currently my main amp. The pics show the amp which you can clearly see is in great condition. The interior pic only shows one side with the mod as I took that pic several monoths ago when I first did one side as I wanted to do a side by side listening comparison test of the channel with the regulated supply vs. the channel without the regulated supply. Then I just forgot to take the pic when it was complete and at this point I just don't have time but I am sure the current pic gives you the understanding of how it fits into the amp without any mod to the chassis. Several Adcom GFA-555's in as clean of condition as mine recently sold on the Ebay for $300 plus with no upgrades whatsoever. The original power supply caps were checked for leakage during the power supply mod work by charging them up and then checking their time constant for discharge. This is a common way for checking to see if caps still have good life left in them and all 4 passed like new.
