The HP 432A and the HP 478A may well have been the longest-lived products in the HP(Agilent) product line. Introduced in the late 1960’s. The HP 432A was finally discontinued earlier this year- when I last looked, the HP 478A sensor was still listed in the Agilent web catalog- at $4,022. The HP 432A is actually not an RF instrument. It is a highly stable DC voltmeter that measures the difference in bridge voltage between a well matched reference thermistor and a measurement thermistor in the Coaxial Thermistor Mount(power sensor) RF power is applied ... moreto the measurement thermistor in the sensor and its change in resistance due to the heating caused by the RF signal is converted to a power reading. Worked great. Less than a db error@0dbm accept at very high end and there only a bit worse. Only one of the 478 sensors is fully functional, the other one will not zero, that issue can sometimes be fixed by internal adjustment.
