REMS Gigant Pipe Threader 4 Ridgid 1/2"-4" pipe Pls Read Listing 1224 300 1822
PLEASE READ ALL. Call before purchasing. You are looking at a REMS brand pipe threader, model Gigant#4000. This threader was made in Germany, and is a heavy duty/professionally used model in Europe. I purchased it sight unseen over two years ago, and the motor was shot. It sat in my shop till this past winter, when I took the motor off and had it repaired at Graham Electric in Gaylord. He did an Armature rewind and repaired the field coils. So the motor is essentially new. Tonight I set it all back up, and tested the oiler pump- it works perfectly. It comes with two self releasing, adjustable die heads, one for 1/2"2" and one for 2.5-4" The dies in the smaller head are marked 1"2" and I have another set of dies marked 1/2"3/4" The dies in the larger head are marked 2.5-4" Now for the bad. It is missing ... morethe oil/chip pan. Also, I can't seem to figure out how to make the clamping jaws close up any tighter than appx. 1.5-2" They are adjusted with the T-handle wrench, but I just don't see them being physically being able to close any smaller. Not sure if you have to change out the clamping jaws to thread smaller pipe(doesn't seem logical) or if I'm just not seeing something/missing parts. I found a complete parts breakdown/instruction manual online, but it is in German: This threader is a well built, professional quality German tool. Parts are available from two REMS distributors here in the US, although their customer service people are not all that helpful. Given the capabilities of this model, I feel it's a steal at $1,750. The large head is fitted with brand new and unused. 2-1/2"4" high speed dies for plastic coated pipe. They will also work for black iron or galvanized pipe if adjusted slightly. I confirmed that with Ridgid tech support. Also included is a set of used dies for stainless that cut ok but die number 3 is chipped. The smaller heads(shown clearly in the last photo) are fitted with 1/4"3/8" 1/2"3/4" and 1" through 2" All are high speed NPT. None of the heads or dies have seen much if any use. The machine was not only refurbished. But also has had some improvements on the problem areas from the original design such as: Grease Zerks: Originally the zerks were pressed-in. This is fine when a machine is new. But after a ... morefew years the zerks become clogged and they are not replaceable unless you have a press and a jig. Most rebuilders leave the original zerks in and send you a dry machine that is not greaseable. Greasing these two zerks is the most important maintenance you can do for your Ridgid 300. Without grease, your front and rear bushings will wear out very quickly. We have made a jig for our mill for this upgrade. We remove the pressed zerks, drill, tap, and face the housing so that threadable zerks can be used. With our rebuilds, if you ever have a clogged zerk, you can pick a new one up at your local hardware store and change it with a 10mm socket. Electrical Terminal Connectors: We have replaced all of the electrical terminal connectors with marine-grade heat shrink terminals. Original connectors would often come loose. Powder Coated: We have also noticed that on the 300's. The stands and pedals take extra abuse so we powder coat them. For sale is a used Ridgid 161 Pipe Threader. This die head is used. It has been COMPLETELY taken apart cleaned and re-greased. The gears have been completely cleaned as well as all internals. All of the moving pieced have been greased or oiled and slide great. The die head will turn with hand power and the centering chuck turns great also. The jaws for the centering chuck are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. The dies are not new but look great. They have been cleaned and inspected. I see no chips or smoothed edges. The internal gears were both inspected and looked very good. The spring inside the drive is in very good shape as well. The rough part of this threader is the powder coating on the outer centering ring( the grey ring around the centering jaws) It has worn off and can be seen in pictures. I see no reason why this ... morethreader would not last a lifetime. It has been taken care of and is ready for a new work site! Threader for 4-6" Pipe Cam-type workholder set instantly.
