Pipe Threading Basics with Ridgid for the do it yourselfer is becoming more common these days. As big box home stores rent almost every professional tool you can imagine. In the D-I-Y spirit, here is a step by step guide to using a Ridgid threader at home. Please note however that Ridgid makes differing models of threaders, so use your common sense. Additionally, never use common steel dies on stainless steel pipe. Step by Step 1. First place the desired length of pipe to thread into the pipe vise. Tighten. This keeps the pipe steady and secure. 2. You will now insert the conically-shaped pipe reamer into the end of the pipe about to be threaded. Turn the reamer in a clockwise direction. 3.Remember to remove“raised portions” keeping the interior wall smooth and clean. There should be no debris inside the pipe. 4. Remove the reamer. 5. lubricant to the end of the pipe in small amounts. Aiding the threader dies in cutting the metal for the pipe threads. 6. The manual threader should now be placed over the end part of the pipe. Turn the directional button to the arrow side of the threader. 7. Push against the end while turning the handle clockwise. As the thread dies engage the metal of the pipe. Squirt a bit of oil onto the pipe, then continue on the end of the pipe. 8. At this point you are continuing on in the cutting process until the die reaches the end of the pipe. 9. Once finished turn the directional arrow button to the opposite side and turn the manual threader counterclockwise. 10. Screw off the manual threader. The ratchet mechanism works properly in both directions. The dies insert properly into the handle. There's nothing that is a glaring problem when I look these over. But I'm not knowledgable about these tools. While they came from a working environment, with some dies used more than others(surface rust on unused dies) It's possible that some of the teeth are dull or damaged. The ratchet handle is about 22" in overall length. SHIPPING NOTE: If you do NOT want the handle to the ratchet head. This set will fit into an $11 Priority Mail Flat Rate Box. A 6 inch pipe wrench mfg by Ridgid with a curved handle. I have read that Ridgid did not mfg wrenches with curved handles. However I don't see any stress marks on the handle of this wrench which might indicate the use of a cheater bar or long pipe. These are called a pipe wrench.Why would someone use a on a tiny wrench anyway? Wrench work perfectly and the jaws close up properly. Up for auction is a Ridgid OO-R Handheld Pipe Threader Set With 1/2"and 3/4" Dies And A Ratchet Head and Handle. These are used tools in good working condition. There is paint, grease, grime, nicks and scratches from use, I looked at all the dies and there are no major chips, I tried to show the condition with the pictures. Both dies say made in USA but I can't find the writing on the ratchet head.
