VTG MILTON BRADLEY DANDY PAPER CUTTER - PATENTED SMALL-MINI 8 7/8"
Up for auction is an old-vintage. Well used MILTON BRADLEY CO. DANDY, PATENTED, SMALL SIZE PAPER CUTTER. It was found at auction so I don't know any history or specific age. I would describe it as being in well-used vintage condition. The greenish top is marred-scarred and has worn edges from use. The wooden ruler has a couple nail holes with the nails missing and one of the five nails in it is a bit crooked so your finger catches on the edge of the nail head. There is no safety latch on the blade. Don't think it's missing. Just never had one. The handle has BRADLEY raised on the outside side. The blade and plate is rusty and could use a polishing-scouring. The BLADE CUTS WELL UP CLOSE TOWARD THE HINGE BUT NOT BACK TOWARD THE HANDLE. Maybe a sharpening or adjustment is needed. This is one of the older models that Mr. Milton Bradley invented before the newer"squared measure" surfaces. This one is a plain wooden surface. The handle has a very worn but still mostly readable factory stamp of"The Dandy- Pat'd Jan 15(or 16? 1895(possibly 1896) Please see the close up photo of this to see the condition of the marking. The ruler at the top is an 8½ inch wooden ruler There is also a hole where a"blade stop" dowel was(see photo) that the blade rested on. To keep from altering it's original condition any I did not place an old appropriate sized dowel or screw there that would suffice as a ... moreblad rest. Which is what I would do with a plain dowel were I keeping it, but leaving it in complete original condition here for the listing. As is. It works fine, just the blade goes all the way to the table surface instead of resting on a dowel or screw. The Milton Bradley Emblem is clearly embossed in the wood. see photo) This one has wear. It was definitely used but working. I have cut paper on it to test. Quite reasonably cuts smaller(less than 9 inch size) paper. The ruler has worn markings but can still be seen and the surface has definite cut marks which can be seen in the photos.
