The Lassco Model 20 Desk Top Corner Rounding Machine is used for rounding the edges of paper stock. The maximum cutting capacity of this Lassco Cornerounder is a 1/2" of paper at once. Generally. Offered without reserve is a vintage Sterling Cast Iron Corner Rounder from an estate. The machine is made from cast iron. It has a large brass tag on the side that reads; The Sterling Patented Aug. 1, 1899 and Mar. 19, 1901, Southworth Bros. Portland ME. When the lever is depressed it lowers a round"foot" that holds the work in place, when the lever is depressed further it engages the curved blade. The press mechanism works very smoothly, I think this machine can be put into service and would last another 100 years, it is Very well made. The rounded blade pressed into a thin slat of wood that slides into a tray at the bottom, the blade can easily be removed by loosening one screw for sharpening. The blade feels sharp, it cuts a radius that is approx. 3/8 or 1/2" It stands approx. 18" tall, the base measures approx. 11" ... morefront to back and it is approx. 10" wide across the front. I have not put it onto a scale yet but I think it weights about 20 or 25 lb. Antique Southworth Sterling Corner Rounder Cutter Machine 1900's patent date
Early Southworth Bros. Sterling round cornering machine. Brass tag shows patents from 1899 and 1901. I believe these were produced through the 30's. Shows some wear from use. Paint has some wear and the nickel plated parts have finish wear. Has"N 453" hand stamped on the machined surface of the base. Not much info out there on these. I did find an online digital version of the parts catalog.This machine is missing the wood block that the cutting blade contacts under the paper, but the parts price list shows them sold by the dozen so I assume these were a commonly replaced wear part. I didn't have a wood piece the correct size, but the small piece I tested the machine with did seem to allow it to cut the paper corner. Blade is there, but may need to be sharpened. Old wood block base looks like it has been a part of this machine's ... morelife for a long time, so I left them together. I did some light cleaning on the unit and shined up the machined surfaces a bit. As far as I can tell, short of the wood block, this is complete. No broken pieces I could see. I am not familiar with this type of equipment, so feel free to ask for any further info. Will make a great piece for a display or put it back to work cutting corners. This is a bit large and heavy for shipping( 23 lbs and stands approx. 19" tall with handle up) so check the shipping price before bidding. Here is a vintage Lassco Model 20 Corner Rounder with 1/4" die. In great working condition. The work surface measures 4" x 8-1/2" but it has a leaf on one side that flips up and snaps into place to form a flat work surface measuring 6" x 8-1/2" In one of the photos, I didn't have the leaf completely up and locked in place. Everything works very nicely on this machine, and the die makes clean sharp cuts. A little door below the handle opens to remove the cut pieces. This rounder comes only with the 1/4" die. Which slips out easily if you have another different size die that you want to use. It has four little rubber feet to protect your table and to keep the corner rounder from sliding while you are using it. It also has a little rubber pad on the work surface that helps to stabilize your materials while you ... moreare cutting corners. It is in very good condition. With just a few minor scrapes to the paint on the handle, some minor spots on the surface, and some tape residue on the side where the little door is located. This is an absolutely wonderful LASSCO Vintage Corner Rounder. Blue with red metal label! This has a removable 1/2" die(popular size) and works as expected! No dents and fully operational, does show some wear(including top of handle) as you can see in the photos. This includes the fold-down side'shelf' for larger paper sizes and the up/down door near the die to remove the clippings after the cuts are made; does not include the pad for the top that may have been used to help keep the paper in place(I just held my paper in place and it worked fine! This purpose of this machine is to make round corners on paper and perhaps other materials(not metal or wood however! With the side support flipped up. The total'footprint' or size of this Model 20 unit is approximately 10-1/2" x 6-7/8" This has one of the earlier serial ... morenumbers that I've seen: 106726 Also included is a photocopy of information/instructions for this model.
