Phillipson Paragon fly rod 8 1/2' - 5 bamboo 3 section very nice original cond.
Today I purchased this Phillipson Paragon fly rod at an estate sale. I don't know really anything about it other than I have read that they fish very well. And I know they were made in the fifties. This is a 3 section 8 1/2' 5 HDH. It also has what looks like a small b with an 8 in front of the length designation. It is in very good overall condition for the age, and does not appear to have any real damage or problems other than very minor scuffs and scratches. It was obviously owned by someone who liked to use it, and it has been well used, but probably has a lot of life left in it. The ferrules seem tight, all the guides are still tightly wrapped, and I do not see any cracks or repairs. I can send better pics too if any one is interested in seeing it in a close up shot with better light. Thanks for looking!

All windings are tight save for the one missing the guide and the ferrule is in good condition. From the 1924-1926 time frame when they were phasing out the ivorine handle and adding a spare spring and pawl. Winding plate is stamped"Duplicated Mark II" Much of the original leading still exists on the winding plate and spool face. There are no cracks in the original agate line guide. The original ivorine handle is crazed and spins freely. The knurled tensioner works perfectly. Gear teeth and dual pawls are in great shape. Very sharp. Reel weighs 8 oz(there ... moreis a small amount of backing included) Original and unfiled smooth brass foot measures 2.5" No wobble or end play. This is a nice American made fly rod from the fiberglass era. There is no sock or tube. Please see photos for condition. As they say.a picture is worth 1000 words.
