ANTIQUE FLATWEAVE STORAGE BAGS (CHUVALS) FROM KAHRAMAN MARAS
This pair of nicely woven chuvals was made by a weaver from the Kahraman Maras region of southeastern Turkey sometime during the first quarter of the 20th century. Chuvals are normally made in pairs. But when searching for older pieces, it is often difficult to find both pieces, which is why I am only offering them as a pair. The bags are all wool, except for the white areas which are cotton and for some internal hem stitching that was done with animal hair. In addition, a small amout of metalic yarn was used for highlights throughout the pattern. The bags measure approximately 2' 2" X 3' 2" and the overall condition of the bags is very good; however, they are old and show some signs of normal wear and tear. I found two small holes that can be seen in the last two photos. Also the colors have faded somewhat, probably from ... morebeing used in direct sunlight for an extended period. The original colors can be seen in the photos I took with the bags turned inside out. The cost of shipping to domestic addresses via UPS ground is included in the sales price. Couple of Old Ore Bags from Colorado Mine Mining Gold
Here is a couple of full sized ore bags from Colorado. The gold ridge mining company was from I believe. Clear Creek County near Central City. The S&W one came from Silverton, however I do not know which mine it came from. These make great back drops of framing up mining artifacts like sticking tommy's. The S&W measure 27 inches long.
