ANTIQUE CHINESE BRONZE VASE with DRAGONS & CLOISONNE BANDING
This beautiful Chinese bronze vase is quite old. And although I cannot say with certainty it's age, I can say with certainty that it is not new. Perhaps from the 1920s? The bronze is heavily textured all over and there are 2 dragons facing each other around the neck. There are 2 lovely bands of cloisonne enameling all around, and 2 loop handles held on by elephant heads. This heavy bronze vase measures 9.6 inches tall and 6.5 inches wide. There is a foundry mark on the base. It is in excellent condition.

Antique "Mahogany" Map /Chart Tube / Case - Brass Banding - Very Rare - Ex Con.
For sale is an Antique Wooden"Mahogany" Map/Chart Tube/ Case with Brass Banding and Parts. I believe that this to be a Very Rare item in that I have only seen one other. The tube/case is in Excellent Antique Condition. The long shaft is made from four different staves of mahogany which were cut in a manner which created an Octagonal(8 sided) interior. I assume that this was done to create strength for the side walls. The interior of the tube was lined with black felt. Again I assume to protect the maps, or charts. The exterior mahogany appears to have had a dark stain applied, or it has darkened considerably over the years. The exterior wood of the tube has no sealer applied. But both the bottom and top are sealed, and the top is visibly sealed on both sides. Also the end grain of the mahogany staves are visibly sealed at the open ... moreend. I suspect that the interior wood is also sealed under the black velvet lining. The two circular ends are also made of mahogany with the bottom end fixed in place. The bottom and the staves are held in place with the use of four pieces of 1-1/4" wide brass circular pieces and screws. The top is hinged and has a brass circular plate screwed into place to give it strength. But more importantly to provide a good tight seal when closed. The hasp is brass with a hook for locking the top down tightly. As mention above, the hook has broken off its original pivot point. The overall length of this piece is 38-3/4" and the exterior of the tube has a diameter of 3-3/4" This is a very handsome and unusual peice!

The machine works just like it should with this exception. Once the banding goes around and the box is banded it will not burn the plastic to release it. This is a lovely antique coopered wooden(oak) jug with copper banding which I came across recently at a flea-market in northern France. The seller advised me that it would have originated in Normandy and was designed to contain cider(or should I say. Cidre) I don't think it will be completely watertight now, but I'd not be too keen to drink anything from it anyway, but it remains a very decorative item which displays very well and which makes a very good conversation piece.
