Early Montague 6’ 3-piece 2-tip Calcutta bait cast rod
Out of the 1900-1930 era. When master rod maker George Varney’s influence was a key to Montague’s success as a rod making company. This was finished with fancy wrapping and Montague’s best nickel silver hardware, including their reel seat with‘saw tooth’ rails, and handmade, welted and serrated ferrules. The first guide and the tiptops are agates, or synthetic agates, and the rest of the guides are NS trumpet guides. The ferrules still fit well enough that you can fish it if you choose. It includes the original wood form case, though the shredded fabric covering is long gone. Very few of these little 3-piece rods ever show up, and this was the first I ever came across. It will match nicely with one of those little 60 yard raised pillar reels that show up in vintage tackle lots so often. I built this rod for fishing the Trinity River in northern California. So that I would have one rod to handle light action half-pounder fishing and adults. The base is a three-piece Rainshadow RX7 blank in the 9'6" 7wt configuration. I added a 5wt tip that is wrapped to match. The reel seat is a Struble, and the knurled end cap on the reel seat is epoxied in place, so I added a rubber fighting butt. This is a solid rod with medium fast action.

Vintage 3-Piece Bamboo Fly Rod– 8’ 6” with extra tip. Each piece measures 35” The extra tip is slightly shorter and measures 33 5/8” I think it would cast a 5/6 wt line jus fine. I would describe this rod as being in very good– great condition. I am selling this because my original goal was to strip and refinished this rod to make it new rod. However. It is in such great shape, I think it would be a waste to refinish it. Couple of things: I am not sure who the manufacturer is. There are no labels. Ferrules are in great shape. Nice pop when you remove them, Cork grip looks new. Looks likered and gold/tan wraps, The full size tip does have a set to it. The wraps look very good. Cost new $149.99+tax. item is my custom rod(it's power set by me after I got it as was too long and fast tapered it's still quite fast tapered but much better lengthened and stout enough for Jersey Bass and Tidal weakfish Fluke Fishing. I put a daiwa steez tip on it a $20 upgrade) It was a 6.10' 6-10lb rod then I cut it into a 6.2' in length and it's power now is mh(around 8-15lb) This is probably the smallest lightest handled rod available see a lip balm tube for comparison.

Clean and in very good condition Sport King fiberglass rod it is from butt to tip 6'2" I doubt this rod ever had a reel on it, or was ever used, a couple eyes has a little corrosion on them, other than that it is in almost new condition.
