Rare Victor Electric violet ray machine circa 1900 quack medical Tesla coil
Up for auction is a very rare and early Victor Electric violet ray machine. Let me start off by saying this is sold for display ONLY. This is a very dangerous device and whatever you do with this you do at your own risk. There are plenty of ways to be killed by this machine since its makers had no concern for safety. As you can see, it has seen better days, but I did run it for about 2 seconds and I got a ½ inch spark between the electrodes at the top, but working condition is not guaranteed and I don’t plan on firing it up again. All this needs to be a nice display item is a fresh coat of paint and some polishing. It was designed to run on 110 or 104 volts AC or DC(the previous owner unhooked the 104 volt terminal internally) and the power is applied to the un-insulated terminals on the base. You are bidding on an antique Shelton violet ray quack machine. It includes probes. None of the three are broken and I got two to light up purple. There is a medal cap which one appears to be cracked but I think it could be repaired. Original box is not in great condition, the inside is better then the outside with purple material. it's age, though it does show signs of use, wear. Bakelite violet wand that plugs in and has original cloth wiring are all in very good to excellent condition for their age. This unit does power up and throws a nice spark. Wow I hate to sell this thing. What a kooky. Crazy cool piece of medical equipment. Seems to work exactly as intended. I was dumb enough to put it near my skin and sure enough little electrical impulses jumped from the machine to my arm. It comes on and the purple light runs up the tubes. It shows 6 electrodes in the instructions but there is only the throat electrode and the comb electrode included. I don't think they were ever 6 electrodes in this set because there is only 1 missing hole which would be for the general electrode. This thing is crazy cool I love it. So I am selling a Vi-Ray-O electrotherapy machine. I do not know anything about this item other than I turned it on. And it worked. I do not know when it was manufactured or where it was made. I have tried to find information on the Vi-Ray-O but I havent had any luck at all. It leaves me to believe that this item has to be somewhat rare. If you have any information for on the item and would like to share it would me I would be willing to listen for sure, I added pictures of all of the extra parts and the booklet. As you can see, the booklet is not in the best shape due the damage to the spine. The wood case is missing the leather handle and the box has a few nicks, scrapes and gouges giving it an old rustic look as can be seen in the photos. The lining in the case looks like it was coming loose, so someone tacked it down with several tacks. I bought this item at an estate sale, so item is sold as is. This one looks awesome with great Art Deco lines and a green glass panel that must look awesome when lit up and makes this one much more desireable for display purposes as this is one of the earliest examples. The only recent one sold for 2899.00 and this one is much nicer and more rare the time frame for anything made by GE Xray Victor was very short because GE bought out Victor shortly after merging with them so this is one of those RARE transitional pieces.
